Why the CX 9 leads it's class

If it's good engineering that shaves the weight, sure.

GM increases their MPG by cutting out everything they can, including inner body panels, which is why they are such flimsy cars and trucks. I'd rather have a solid well built car and lose a MPG or 2.

I'm happy with the mileage we get.

I'm averaging 15-16MPG in my CX9 while my wife is averaging 18 in her XC90. Get me to 18 in the CX9 and I'll be satisfied.

Is the XC90 running premium?

Does 2 MPG really make that much difference?

If I'm comparing the CX-9 to the Honda Pilot and the CX-9 averages 16 to the Pilots 18 that really doesn't factor in to my decison at all.

Not criticizing the value anyone puts on 2 MPG, just curious what everyone thinks.

Even if the CX9 is 2mpg less than the Pilot it's still worth it. Same for the awkward XC90

DI (direct injection) is the dream technology. It improves MPG while gives us 5-10% more torque (therefore, horsepower). All it takes is a bit more $$$ to make.

I am guessing (CX9-AWD is) 1mpg worse than Pilot-AWD, and 2mpg worse than Highlander-AWD based on what I read on the web. I love my CX9 as much as the next guy. 2mpg improvement would make me even happier. 2mpg over 15 is 13% improvement. Why not?
Shaving 200lb (thru use of high-strength steel on critical area) and DI engine will do the trick nicely.

The Pilot and Highlander are UGLY, but that isn't why I dislike them so much. It's the fact that both makers traded function and practicality in favor of useless gimmicks and poor design.

First, they are both too small to claim to compete with CX9 and Enclave.
Lousy gimmicky seating.
Conversation mirror to distract the driver instead of a convenient eyeglass holder.
Etc etc

That's really why I don't like them, and bought the CX9

The 2009 Honda Pilot is probably bigger than the CX9. But, it's also uglier than the previous model Pilot, which makes it UGLY! No comparison to the sexy CX9. It's like comparing a bulldog to Adriana Lima. Not even in the same species.

Pilot is 9" shorter, and has 12 cf less cargo volume.

The 8 passenger rating is a joke too. Only 5" more width in the third row to hold an entire extra body? I don't think so.

I stand corrected, I just looked at the dimensions again and it seems although there are some dimensions where the Pilot is larger there are other dimensions (such as overall length) where the CX9 is larger.

Nevertheless, the Pilot is still pretty damn ugly irregardless.

As I've said in other threads, I never buy anything without doing a lot of research.

We looked at EVERY vehicle with a third row, and the CX9 still won.Even after we bought it, I have compared it to newer vehicles like the Highlander. Still the winner.

I don't praise it because I own one, but rather because I know the competition.

So many people think their car is great because they never looked at anything else.

I should add that before we bought our CX9 we considered buying a 2009 Honda Pilot. We had narrowed down our choice to these 2. But after going to a Honda dealer to "check out" the Pilot. My wife and I were thoroughly disappointed. I read about how the Pilot has best in class interior roominess and much publicized seating for 8, but while sitting inside the Pilot, it was easily apparent that there's no way 8 people can fit in there. Even though the interior passenger and cargo volume does seem slightly larger than the CX9. Front and 2nd row seats are adequate. But 3 in the 3rd row? "I don't think so" is right. And I'm not a big guy at 5'6 140. I wouldn't even subject 3 kids to the torture of sitting back there for any length of time. Anyways, since it's only appeal to us, its claim of greater roominess, really wasn't all that much greater, the decision to buy a CX9 was clear.

We've had the CX9 for about a month now and my wife loves it, and frankly so do I.
