Why not a Miata?

I think I'm going to test drive one once the roads are clear, the one I test drove last summer felt really crappy for being an 02 with 40k miles (at the time I had 55k miles on my 02.5 and it felt so much tighter in terms of shifting/sterring).

And as for going to a 1st gen. I don't know if I could go back to having a car that old after having a 2002. Do any of the 2nd gen miatas have side airbags?

Mileage is way overated when speaking about the Miata. Get a 94-97 thats in good shape with a lot of miles. Take it in to have the motor rebuilt to specs and you will be out maybe 6k after the rebuild and purchase. Spend another 8k (over time if you dont have it all now) and get the FM turbo or BSP M62 Supercharger, aftermarket suspension, ect... and you will be in heaven

Side airbags? Are you serious? If you want a car that will make you feel safe, better buy that MSP. Driving on the freeway next to an 18 wheeler on a windy day does not inspire confidence in most Miata drivers. Im not saying they are not safe its just they way some people FEEL in the Miata. I had a lot of girls tell me they dont feel safe in the car.

state of mind. if you didn't look at the title, you wouldn't guess my 94 is a 12 year old car.. And I don't think even the NC has side bags. the car is too small for side bags..

Don't worry about high miles. My 91 had 202k miles on it before it blew up, and it was a track b****.

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE

If I had to choose between a MSP and a turbcharged Miata Id take the Miata anyday, now had I already a Miata in my possession, Id defintely look into a MSP as daily driver/road trip cruiser for a second choice when super spiritied driving isnt desired.
