why are ppl lowering their mp5 ?

The notion that lowering your car improves handling is often false. The lowering has to be done very precisely to actually improve cornering. Most of the lowering jobs you see on the street are done incorrectly, and therefore handling is actually worse. This is because on these incorrect lowering jobs the wheels have a tendency to angle inward by 5 degrees or more, reducing the tire surface touching the ground and thus totally screwing up your handling.

If you don't care about handling and you just want a fly hoopdy, yo, then carry on. :)

Aaaactually, the negative camber from lowering the car, albiet wearing the tires unevenly, DOES improve cornering. I've never heard of a car that was lowered skidpad rating go down! lol
Granted there are other things that need to be done to get the most out of your lowered suspension set up- (ie upgraded shocks, etc) however going with shorter coils with a higher spring rate WILL improve handling....and appearance (depending on who you ask).

You posed the question in an earlier post - why not lower your car? People are telling you why not.

Yeah, And people also said why it should be lowered, so it all comes down to oppion, and all i was trying to say was, who cares? If someone wants a lower car, let them lower it. If someone wants their car at the stock height , let it be so (wiggle) If want to flame some more... go for it, i'm not arguing. (yawn)

hey

i just cant believe one person has only linked (in writing atleast anyway) lowering the car to a lower centre of gravity (well done L8R).

anyway, the main reason i lowered the car was handling. better looks was just a by-product so to speak.

Personally I think Lowering your car in NJ/NY area is stupid...There are many Potholes...Theres nothing like watching a car w/ a body kit and that's dropped w/ major damages from bottoming out!

Everyone is right about lowering thier car. It's all upto to your personal feeling about looks/handling etc. But, the comment made earlier about putting 18's on a P5 and not lowering it is flat out silly. The car will look like it's on stilts if you don't lower it and that is what I would consider rice. A car with big wheels and no drop. But then again, that is just my opinion

not cool

i dont think lowering car looks cool. you cant drive the car off paved roads and what if you get into an accident ? the other cars bumber will be going through your window
besides how does the car handle on a crappy road with potholes etc. and in winter ie: snow, ice,
also sitting higher gives me a better sense of control.
well thats my opinion...

a lower ride looks phat but i don't think it's worth it.. i had neuspeed race springs (2.5" drop) on my old car and i needed to also get new shocks b/c they weren't stiff enough and a camber correction kit to save my tires.. plus, it's a b**** goin over speed bumps and steep inclines.

i think the P5 handles just fine and the lower ride will only improve handling a little. i can see how suspension mods would help on the track but if you plan to use the P5 for day-to-day driving, then a lower ride isn't worth it.. unless you want it for looks. just my $0.02

My car is lowered, and i drive in myrtle beach all the time. If you've ever been to myrtle you know the roads there are s***. Never had a problem there.

I still want to go lower w/ my 18's theres still about an 1" gap in the back, its ugly. The spools give a weird staggered drop....

since when is lowering a car a ricer thing? i guess EVERY single JDM car in japan and in the usa must be a ricer car then? /QUOTE]

Yeah, many cars that are imported into the US have to be raised to meet the bumper height requirement. I'm not sure if the P5 was, but I know that my Lotus was jacked 1" and the gap is so ugly. The us got 16" wheels to make up for it, but it doesn't help. Even with the car raised an inch, I still have to be careful about scraping the front.

i dont care wut other people thinks but i've had all my car lowered....
97 civic ex ground control
92 civic cx w/ sohc vtec ground control/ tokico
75 toyota corolla cut the springs on da front and lowering block on da rear.
76 toyota corolla trd springs front, took off 2 leafs at the rear.
86 toyota trueno trd springs
91 mazda 323 sprint lowering springs
03 mazda protege soon.....tein lowering springs.

this was my 97 ex sold it 2 1/2 years ago!!! i like my s*** drop!

i just had the lowering springs on em w/ stock shocks so it wasn't all that....honestly i have not driven a car that handles as great as the pro5. non of my cars handled this good.

bah! you're all crazy...

mine's lowered and I take it "off road" al the time to get back to the trailhead for the bike.. It may take a little more careful driving, but I'll snap some pictures next time and you'll see my point. My problem is with teh stiffer springs it always picks up one front wheel or the other.. I need an LSD :)

Lowering *properly* will improve the handeling. A)lower center of gravity. B) a stiffer spring rate will reduce the amount of body roll/dive and generally keep the tires with the proper contact patch (depending on suspension design)

Besides they just look better lowered.

Hands down, most sporty looking cars look better when lowered. Posts like this give me the feeling that people are trying to justify their reason for not lowering their car when in actuality they're too broke to lower their car. I'm gonna have to take a BigBen view on this one and say...."If you think the car looks better at stock height, then good for f****** you." But, seeing how some people think that lowering their car is pointless, now that's just silly. Putting bigger wheels on any car and not lowering it a little is pretty sad looking and always makes me wonder...(scratch) does that guys actually think his car looks good that high.

im in the weeds

my car is lowered 2 inches and i have the dg front lip on it. the front of the car is about 2 inches off the ground and i love it. it handles great, looks great, and gets a lot of compliments. i had to learn how to handle speedbumps and driveways different but its well worth it to get the look that separates my car from all the stock ones here in town. check out this pic and you tell me what you think about the look of lowered p5s now

Re: im in the weeds

It's hard to tell how low it is on the grass. Do you have another shot of it on regular pavement and what springs or coilovers did you use. The seats give your car a nice look. Good ish man.

I just lowered mine this past weekend. This is my first lowered car. It looks much better. It is still pretty high off the ground. the front of our cars seem so high to begin with. I have had no problem scraping or anything. i have about 1 finger gap in front and back.

oh and LSD is the shizzle. I love it.
