just wondering if anybody has raced ppl in other cars comparable and how it ended up. mainly wondering about 2002 or higher civic si race. thx!

I have a stock MSP and I raced a 2002 and up civic Si on the highway..IT was probably the closest race I was ever in to tell you the truth..Keep in mind I'm used to driving a much faster car then the MSP but I will race with it nonetheless..
The civic was an Si, modded..From what I could tell it had 16 inch wheels, lowered,and exhaust..It was a decent exhaust not some universal job, so I assume it had at least an intake and exhaust..
I came up on him on the highway and cruised right beside him for about 1 min just waiting for him to go but he wasn't,so I just provoked him by staying neck and neck with him..Eventually he just punched it out of nowhere and got about a 2 car jump on me..But I stayed in it and he kept his distance and I could not pull him in, it was like this from 60-135mph until my speed limiter cut in so I just slowed up..He put his 4 ways on and I felt like an ass because it was the first time a street honda beat me..But then I catch back up and do the same but this time I am determined not to let him jump the gun..So he guns it and I do too..I am in 3rd gear at 60 again,this time he gets 1/2 a car on me, I shift to 4th and put him at my back bumper,but when I shift to 5th, my front is at his door and about 2 or 3 seconds later I have him by about a carlegnth..
So I'd say the MSP is faster, but not by much at all..I know the MSP will get off the line better but I wanted to measure true acceleration and it just so happened I squeaked him off..Keep in mind both of theese races were at high speed so it is easier to tell the differences and we were at it for awhile,lets face it, a MSP won't do 135 with the flick of your toe,I didn't think it would ever get there..

g = 9.81m/s^2

using: d = vi(t) + 0.5at^2

400m = (0)(0) + 0.5s(9.81m/s^2)t^2

isolating for t:

t = sq.rt of: (400m / (0.5s(9.81m/s^2))) = 9.03s

So your Mazda 3 would have completed the quater mile in 9.03 seconds. LOL... maybe u should do that to save face... Then u can say u beat the GTP... but then u'd have a totaled car.... I wonder if insurance would cover that....

Ok, lets get this thread back to the facts.

1) He said he raced the GTP through the twisties and admitted he would have lost in a drag race. So all the name calling and talk of "those people" is uncalled for, you guys are going out of your way to find someone to argue with.

2) The Mazda3 is faster than a couple of you people realize. The sedan weighs only 2750lbs in GT trim and is capable of 15.5-15.7 1/4 mile times.

3) The IS300 and SPEC V run mid to high 15's so those races are all driver. The Jetta, Civic, and A4 are no match for the Mazda 3, so those stories check out good as well.

So it seems everything in Dre's post checks fine with me.

Only real race I had so far was against a Matrix XR, I inhaled him so bad its not even worth discussing.

isn't it funny how cars don't have the same acceleration as gravity ? don't forget that cars are powered by engines that consume fuel, not potential energy. so no, 9.03s wouldn't be accurate for the 1/4 mile for a mazda3.

oh yeah, that formula you just posted solved the amount of time it would take for the mazda3 if it were dropped at a height of 400m. so you're right, a mazda3 would do the 1/4 mile in 9.03s, if the 1/4 mile was a vertical one.
