Who is having paint problems with their P5 or MP3? I have Vivid yellow and my hood ships if you look at it wrong. I put a quarter in the car wash the other day and the paint on my bumper started peeling off before I even touch the sprayer. I think the paint is afraid of pebbles and water.

No Problems here, either! Then again, I've only washed my car about four times... we'll see what happens in a few more months!

Yellow paint, 6 months old, no problems other than the occasional chip. After a spot of "coverup" from my complimentary (thanks, Mazda) touchup paint bottle, all is well.

I have noticed that the paint is quite thin, though. The thinner the paint, the more likely a problem will occur. I'm saving up, as we post, for an amazing new paint job, though. All things will be good, then.

I was looking through some mags while on vacation considering the same thing Syzygy.....some custom paint...but not a complete paint job...more like flames, or scallops, or something like that. Make it look killer.....and at the same time putting more paint/protection on the front of the hood, the complete front end, and the front fenters.

I've had an occasional rock chip or two... The paint is quite thin though.

I put a nice new coat of wax on a month or so ago and it seemed to help some... Anyways, good luck!

Thicker paint doesn't always mean less chips...it can mean more. My Miata has a custom pearlcoat paintjob which is about as thick as your figernail. I have about 200 chips on the front end in a year :( Luckily the color is silver, as is the basecoat/primer/bumper plastic color so you can't see them.

Sounds like you guys are in the market for some Stongard :)

I have a yellow P5 for 3 moths. No problems yet. But all the talk on this forum about paint always freaks me out. When ever I look at my front bumper I think I see a chip and Im like "s***" but luckly its always just a dead bug.

(I know in jinxing myself by talking about this)

Mica Black is an unforgiving color..especially in rock chip capital, WA state...
but other than my front end slowly turning white due to the rocks on the freeway...
no problems...

rock/stone chips on my front end, no paint peeling. I had some paint protection system applied called "Perma Plate"

Anybody ever heard of this? Any way its about $450 retail to have it done, obviously I didnt pay full price more like $50 to our detailer to do it on my car. (I work for Mercedes Benz)

It guarantees the paint from oxydation and other stuff. As far as bugs on my front end just a spray of water/soap at the car wash does it no more scrubbing them suckers off.

more info on Perma Plate go to www.permaplate.com

Well, I went to my dealer yesterday. He said they couldn't do anything about it since al the damage was caused by rock chips. He said the paint would have to peel or chip by its self in order to be covered under warranty. Maybe I just need to lower my deductable and "hit" a small pole or something.

big_ben, that sounds about right unfortunately. I had my Miata painted about a year and a half ago and like I said the front is COVERED with rock chips. I took it back to the body shop and what the guy did was take is fingernail and try to chip away at the edges of the rock chips. If he could flake away more paint by working out from the chip he would repaint the car as it was obvious the paint was not adhering to the body correctly. But alas, he could not, so I am stuck with it. DOH!
