Who here has a Firearm?

Just curious who all has guns here. I bought my first gun on Sat. for pleasure and self protection. I am taking the Conceal & Carry class on 3/24. My wife wasnt too happy of course, she dont like guns, but I guess she will have to adjust to me having one around. I got a real good deal on it. here it is.

Hmm.. I live in a city with a crazy high murder rate but I feel no need to have a gun. I wouldn't feel safe having one in my house, whether it was mine or not.

I do have a dagger in the top drawer of the night table next to my bed, unclipped from the sheath and ready to go.

Chris, that dagger is probably just as dangerous as a having a firearm. Blades don't have safety's. Also, that dagger won't do you much good if you don't know how to use it in a real situation. It'll probably end up getting used either against you or firmly grasped in your dead hands.

The recoil does not suck. The accuracy does not suck. A 7.62x39 will take something down in one hit. As opposed to my AR15 and SAR-3's 5.56MM which is a mouse caliber.

The stark difference between the American M-series rifles and the Kalishnikov's is that the M-series are rifles first, while the AK's focus on rate of fire and reliability.

I am actually considering getting my license to carry and getting one. I don't know if you guys stay on top of the news, but Philly has broken every freaking record in the books with murder rates/ gun crimes/ etc etc. I had a bad experience this weekend, and REFUSE to be put in that situation again... edit: and this ins't the first time i've been put in bad situations.

Mind you, I have always been personal fire arms. I have shot a gun maybe twice in my life, witha buddy who took me to a gun range. Guns were never really my thing. My parents never owned weapons, and did not believe in owning them either. I'm still iffy about it, but I really don't know what else to do. I live in a good area, but you cant seem to escape crime anywhere.

My biggest reservation about purchasing a weapon, is actually using it. I'm pretty confident I would have no problem pulling a trigger, its all the complications that come with it. Not only that, but I feel as if owning a gun can elevate a situation way past what it would have ever been if I didn't. And then all of the legal nonsense that you have to deal with after words.
Anyone have any input or advice?

EDIT: except in california, you're limited to 10 round clips.

Semi-automatic is the order of the day for most states. Depending on where you live, you can obtain a "Class-3 license" to purchase full-automatic weaponry. But why bother, it's a waste of money on ammo. All of my rifles are semi-auto.

I can relate to what you are saying here. Now, the main issue is where you live. Every state has completely different regulations involving civilian lethal force. In Florida, it was very lax. If you felt that your life was in immediate danger by an armed assailant, you could dispatch them with lethal force with a firearm, given the proper conceal carry, etc.

Myself, I no longer utilize my Concealed Carry. For a while, I carried it in my car, however, as time went on, I realized that leaving a firearm in your vehicle is a huge liability. While I am a huge firearm-advocate, I don't feel the need to carry. I think that for the most part, any situation can be avoided or resolved without the use of a firearm. There are some times when I do carry, however, it all depends on where I'm going i.e. rough areas at night, camping, or extended periods of time away from home while in-state.

If you are interested in pursuing a CC permit, talk to your local firearm store and find out the details of your area. Also, once obtained, take a defensive pistol course.
