whining noise from engine

My cars been good for the most part recently but last night the engine started to make that electric whine sound such as the same sound you hear when you are in reverse and accelerate. It does it no matter how low of rpm or what gear im in or how fast im going it does it regardless and gets louder as my rpms raise. I have no clue as to what this could be and hope my tranny isnt messed up bad. any ideas help would be appreciated

I have a civic that started doing that and I found that it was a bearing inside the clutch needed to be replaced... that could be it?

It's just the fs crying saying please no more. Does it do it sitting still or moving? Sounds like a bearing but it could be a lot of things from differential to pilot bearing power steering pump water pump small infant you forgot in the back seat the list goes in
