where'd ya get that engine???

Ummm....every Mazda Protege from 2002 on up has the 2.0 FS-DE engine...it's the stock engine. Some older Proteges were running 1.8 or 1.6 liter engines, but you should have the 2.0 liter like most of us if I'm not mistaken...

I bought my rebuilt engine for $800 (a frikkin steal). I spent today thrashing the hell out of the wrecked engine I had sitting

haha kinda off topic but i thought it was funny the other day when i came to find that my friends protege is a .9L, no typos its is only 9 tenths of a liter, damn thats a small engine, he turns on the a/c and it wont climb some hills.

Ummm, pardon? I'm pretty sure there were no 900 cc Proteges...
Is it a 1.8L running on 2 cylinders or what?

If the car you are asking for is the 2002 Protege in your sig than you have the FS-DE 2.0L engine.

In 2001 the 2.0L (FS-DE) replaced the 1.8L (FP-DE) and it was standard in the ES, optional in the LX.

But if you're looking to buy it just to have another then I don't know where to get one. Junk yard?

Are you confusing it with the FS-ZE by any chance?

Nope, the smallest Protege engine was the Z5-DE 1.5L used in 1995 DX and LX models.

I saw one on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for 1500 bucks. No one even bid on it.
