Where does this go?

I swapped motors this past weekend and when we were hooking the wires back up, we had one left over plug and had no idea where it was suppose to go.

I'm posting this in the p5 section because I have a p5 wiring harness, manual trans and abs/speed sensors from a p5.

The plug is the same plug as the maf plug but it is located on the line that goes back behind the motor that hooks up the starter and alternator. It's wires are black w/ orange, orange, and white w/ red.

Anyone who could locate where this wire goes for me would be a great help and I'd owe you one :)

2 sounds right, just that when i took my tranny off i had a similar plug left over that hooked up under the tranny

is teh car running with that unplugged? maybe trowing a cel?

Yeah, the car runs fine and I do have a CEL but my speedo isn't working so I know that'll throw a CEL. I plan to get the codes read but the car isn't fit to drive around just yet.

what i read was there is 3 connectors that are on the tranny. The neutral switch, the reverse light switch, and the speedo sensor. The neutral and reverse light switches are on leads and should come up near the engine mount itself. One is grey and the other black I believe. The speedo is on the back top side of the tranny more or less on the tranny directly below the throttle body copyd that from another post hope that might help

Not with the abs proteges, there is just a dummy switch there. The speedo gets read off of the abs sensors in the wheels

i agree, looks like the speedometer sensor

edit: im sure the speedometer not working wont throw a cel.. mine never did

isnt there three sensors in the trans? speedometer, reverse switch, and neutral safety switch

If the speedometer gets read from the ABS sensors then that switch is nothing to worry about - it's just an extra that's used for cars without ABS. If the CEL is on and the speedometer isn't working, then it's possible that something related to the ABS system is damaged.

Shouldn't the harness be different though? Like my harness has a massivly large abs connector, doubt it isn't to be found on a non-abs harness, so why have this extra plug?

(eek2) I hope my abs isn't damaged

I've got no clue - my car doesn't have ABS :(

Just offering possibilities - it might not hurt to do a once-over of your ABS system. :)

thats definately the speed sensor plug, i should be right under the started on the tranny where the axles go.

So is there a speed reading from the speedo sensor and the abs? I guess it would serve as a useful double-checking mechanism for the vehicle. Maybe that's why there's a CEL - there's a mismatch in the two speedo readings (one says XXmph, and the other always says 0mph).

there should be only a reading from the speed sensor, it is possible that mazda uses abs as a back up if the speed sensor fails.I know my 626 had abs and also has a functioning speed sensor.
.

The plug is still unhooked but my abs module wasn't being grounded properly, fixed that today and my speedo works again but like I said, the plug is still hanging so that idea is out.
