Wheels/tires for Auto-X ?

Hi All !

Can you tell me what wheels/tires you use for Auto-X ? I just got my MP3 a few weeks ago and the idea of some slalom with no (or at least little) consequence appeals to me.

Do you use the stock tires or will that eat them up pretty quickly ?

Thanks

Stock tires are pretty good. Come out next weekend to Mississauga! My MP3 is lonely all by itself. hehe

There are a couple sets of 15's on order that I can direct you to if you feel like getting new wheels and race tires. But the SP9000's will last quite a while and are fairly grippy, especially if you haven't autocrossed before.

stock tires to autox every month with frequently hard cornering on streets...sp9000s almost done with 19500miles...

it's a lie to say i don't wanna beat others in autox...but with plenty of fun and without extra $$$, dunlop sp9000s are good...no slick tires...

It all depends on what class you want to be in. If you want to stay in stock, the wheels are not easy/cheap to find, and they are not lightweight.
I recommend, as would others on here, the ASA JS1s in a 17x7 witha 49 offset from Tirerack.com with Kuhmo Ecsta V700s in a 205/40/17 size. Your stock wheels have a 5x114.3 bolt pattern, and make sure they send you the correct centering rings and lug nuts. They come free with the rim/tire package. You'll spend a little over $1200 with shipping, but the grip is amazing.
In other classes, you can run other size rims in different offsets.

Rowan, you in STS already?

BTW, I ran the SP9000s for the first half of last season. They kick ass. I ended up with a class and overall championship for the year last year. My first year ever doing it. This car is VERY capable of winning awards, especially on tighter, more technical courses.

Good luck, and keep us posted with results!

Thanks for the info. I have never tried it before so I am still looking to see what goes on in my area. Don't expect results from me too soon :)

Thanks
