Wheels "Pitting"

I did a search and did not find anything about this. Have anyother MP3 owners had a problem with the stock racing harts "pitting" or the paint/finish coming up. :wtf: 3 out of 4 of my wheels are very bad with one of them even having paint flake off. My car will be in the dealer tommorow getting the front bushings replaced and while it is there the California Mazda rep will be there.. My service mgr said they may possibly be covered under warranty. Any input on this would be great. Thanks.

I don't have this problem but I saw someone who had this problem. The problem is that if you do some gravel road, it can damage your wheels. The reason is our tires. We have 205/45ZR17 on our car. If you look at a wheel from the front of the tire, you can see that the wheel is a bit wider than the tire. The edge of the wheel is expose to the flying rock and debris and can be damaged.

IF you install 215/45 instead of 205/45, this will make the tire a little bit wider than your wheel and it will protect the wheel.

Our mag are painted with a very fine silver paint that look almost like nake metal. IT can be repaired easely if you got the right paint. Last year I repair one of my wheel that had ben damaged a little bit and you can't see where I did the repair.

I hope this can help you!

I bring a wheel to my local car paint store, Car Quest and my friend who work there got me a perfect color match for the wheel.

My left rear wheel has the clearcoating peeling off and a replacement RacingHart is on order by the dealer under warranty. The other three are fine. Go figure.

My wheels have some pitting as well, mainly on the inside of the rim from brake dust. I know we have aftermarket wheels which should be better than stock, but it seems these special order wheels were made with cheapness in mind, due to the fact that only Mazda had them made.

Maybe if it gets bad enough, I'll bring it up with the dealer, but I wouldn't even expect them to replace these. I will either by new rims in the next year or two, or get the Racing Harts stripped and painted by a reputable place...
