Wheel Locks

So I just picked up my somewhat new car, it had mileage on it, 2006.

I noticed right away that when I braked that for some reason the steering wheel would start to shake so I called my dealership, and my service advisor and they said it just meant that the rotors needed to be cut.

Now I know its not just me they should have been checked before I bought the car, but I let it go, and than realized why they didn't cut the rotors its because when I bought the car they said they lost my wheel lock key, so they had no way of getting the tire off the car anyhow.

Now the point of that entire thing was where can I find the correct key for my wheel lock, and since I am bring it to the Mazda dealership how come they don't have the correct key themselves to get my tired off ??

The saddest part of all of this is I used to work for them, and now that I don't they are not being helpful to me because they don't see me as their customer they are seeing me as a friend who just got a car from them.

So anyone have any ideas about my wheel locks ?

Oh boy, you got a problem. I suggest starting by searching down around the spare tire and every other nook and cranny to see if you can find the key. Are they the factory locks? The dealer may have a record. If all else fails, you need a tool like this http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/prod...bcat=Bolt-Out,+Taps+&+Dies&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes
This will probably get the locks off, but they will be ruined. The dealer selling you the car should take some responsibilty because with the keys, many parts of the car cannot be serviced.

Well I just searched the car and guess what no key !!

So than I go ahead and I find the registration card, and Mcgard went bankrupt so I am not about to send them my money for the key. I am this close to just puttiing the car right back into the dealers lap, and tell them deal because I am getting fed up with them real quick.

is there a number stamped on the wheel bolt? if so that would be the key number and the dealer could order you a new one.

i would think they are legally bound to provide you with the means to remove the wheel in the event of a flat. this is a potential safety issue. In my experience, when things look grim, always turn things into a safety issue, large companies s*** all over themselves at the thought of being busted on some sort of unsafe/potentially unsafe act.

Most dealers have a master set they use in case a customer hides/leaves their wheel lock key at home. Ask your dealer if they do have a master set and they can remove your wheel locks for you. Unless you have a uber-rare JDM set of wheels I wouldnt even bother with wheel locks....

^ you never have anything constructive to say.

Dealership shouldn't be selling you a car without a wheel lock key... Go back and ask for it, they probably have it laying around or can order it.

Hopefully they have that master key. =) If you don't care about wheel locks, ask them just to put regular lugs on so you don't have to worry about a key.

get a gun...go to the dealer....and tell the parts guy to give u head....along with the wheel lock key.

The dealer should've introduced you to the wheel locks when you were buying/picking up the car and they should've given you a bag with the spare nuts. If not, then I would call up Mazda and first complain about that Mazda dealership's behavior towards you, then talk to them about the key.
