What's that noise...

I'm looking for thoughts on what a noise that has been driving me nuts could be...

-When it happens: acceleration of any speed, forward or reverse, from a stop, or initial deceleration from a constant speed.
-What it sounds like: something shifting, or something loose, but not really that bad. Its pretty faint, but loud enough to hear over the radio on a normal volume, and loud enough for my gf to notice it too (she could care less about cars, and doesn't pay attention). Non metallic sounding, almost like there is something moving in the trunk...and i've ruled out the possibility that its gas slushing around in the tank. which leads to>
-Where is it coming from: sounds like the back seat or trunk area, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it
-How long does it last: a split second, almost just as long as the initial start of movement
-What i've checked so far...just about anything that could possibly roll, slide, shift, be loose, etc that is within reach, including under the seats, the trunk, the spare well, the rear deck by the speakers, yada yada yada...
It's really starting to urk me. :mad:
Anyone have any ideas? This is what I have thought, and it may help clarify what type of sound it is...the fuel container is loose (I know, not very possible, and if it is, that's probably bad)...but that's kind of the type of sound or at least the conclusion one would draw based on how and when it happens...and for the people with clunks on the MP3 and MSP, its just as annoying as that and kind of just as slight, but noticeable.
Just throw anything out there (funny answers are good too) just to help me think of what it could possibly be...

can u describe the sound a little bit more? i think i might have the same problem but mine sounds like somethin rattlin when i accelerate just started to happen about a couple of days ago n its startin to make me mad

I've been through the klunk for years, and thoroughly know what that is...probably 60% of my posts are klunk related, so I'm well versed. this isn't that. thanks though.

On describing the sound more: yeah, kind of like something is loose , but more in a loose and rolling around type of thing...almost like there is a ball in the trunk, but once you're moving, it won't move, just on acceleration in either direction or even a turn here and there. See if this makes sense, pretend we were to tie a tennis ball to a string (that can change in length to make it possible to touch all four sides of the trunk), and hang it from the center of the trunk when its down...where the ball would make contact with the inside of the trunk, in any direction, is a piece of velcro, so, once the ball made it to that spot, due to acceleration, or deceleration or lateral movement, it made a slight sliding sound for a split second and then stuck, and didn't swing or move again, until you stopped and it magically came loose and reset istelf hanging from the middle again... I know, tough one to follow, but that's the best I can come up with...(boom03)

wow we no who went to college lol jk but yea the sound happens when u take turns? or when u just acclerate? cuz if its makin the sounds when u turn check ur sway bar on the sides with the endlinks for some reason my sway r touchin my rear brakes in the back n my sway bar r scraped up on the sides n thats how i no my sway bar is touchin plus when i took a left into my drive way n stoped i looked under at my sway bar n it was rubbin against my brake line!

Front/back, right/left...all of em make sounds, but very slight and inconsistent...I'll check out the brake lines and endlinks...its always possible.
I wouldn't even be surprised if my rear suspension just came out from under the car and hit me over the head one day. Its done everything else possible to piss me off.
(Hint hint for any family members 'checking in' on what I want for christmas... Its called the Delsing clunk fix; I have all the contact information, just ask me )

check your spare tire and jack. Sub-woofer. torque your wheels. check your exhaust hangers....ummmm...thats all I got for now.

when my car accelerates i ahev a big rattling problem in the back, only becuase one of the hangers is loose, ive sorta just drowned out the noise though

Not sure if it's the same thing, but...

I had a rattling from the rear door of my P5, it drove me crazy. When I checked, I saw that the stupid license plate holder was rattling. I tried to tighten it up, but no avail. So, I went to Home Depot, bought the rubber things you use for your cabinet doors, put one on each side (bottom) and no more rattle

Not sure if it's the same problem you've described.

So, over the past few weeks, this thing has spiraled out of control, now, any movement in any direction produces a noise. It is NOT the clunk, and doesn't even happen over bumps/vertical movement. Its with any momentum shift into or out of any direction..SOOOOO frustrating, and wouldn't you know it, my warrantly just ran out about 1-2k miles ago.

Any ideas people? My only somwhat realistic guess would be a loose fuel cell? As the noise is more evident the more fuel I have and makes noise at the exact times that fluid would shift and splash (though that's not the sound, but could be if you amplified it by about 10...Yes, I can now hear this over music at about the 20 level on the stock kenwood unit.

a new car (well new used car) looks better and better every week...

if you have a little extra time, you might try tearing apart the rear suspension and putting everything back together, making sure everything is tight

the origin of the sound being right behind the back seats is just right for having a loose strut bolt, endlink bolt, etc. or even bad rear strut/s

Where Can I Find The Delsing Klunk Fix?

Like everyone else i have the same clunking problem with my MP3, i see a lot of people mentioning the "klunk fix" , what exactly is it and where can i purchase it? Please respond, iam tired of using loud music to drown out the noise.

fokismp3, this isn't really the clunk. run a quick search on "klunk" "clunk" or other words like that and you'll literally find thousands of pages on what it is and what could possibly fix it.

Nate, I hear you, but time these days is not my friend...its actually my enemy, I'm working about 15 hrs a day recenly, weekends aren't safe from work either, so I barely have time to do anything. All of my hobbies have suffered, and I've got to figure out a way to get back into triathlon and lacrosse shape for this spring...whew! I know, lengthy and pointless post; point is, I need the quick and easy solution, not discovered by me; cheap is cool too
