What type of oil in your RX-8?

I now that there is this huge ongoing debate about synthetic and rotary engines. I still have yet to find a definative answer for the RX-8. Some people use synthetic and some people don't but it seems like the people that use synthetic have done the research and the people that use dino do it out of fear of warranty void. I want to know what is best for the engine.

Here is my question since I am planning on making my first oil change in the next 500 miles or so.

If you use synthetic, what brand and for how long?

If you use dino, what brand and for how long?

if you do a search over at rx8club.com you will spend 3 years reading everything about what kind of oil to use in the 8.
According to Mazda, they say do not use synthetic. Some people use it but mazda says not too which could lead to a headache if any serious warranty work was needed. Im using conventional and my dealer does my oil changes. As for what brand, use your favorite. Its a never ending argument between which is better. It doesnt really matter, the 8s all burn oil and you will have to add some every now and then.

On a side note, i am switching to Royal Purple synthetic for my tranny, everyone says this helps tremendously with some of the tranny issues we have.

The debate rages on with RX7 owners too, but we don't worry about warranty. (sad1)
FWIW, I use Mobile 1 synthetic in my FD. But the only reason I switched was due to the high temps and possible coking issues in the turbos. If I had an NA, I'd still be using regular oil. I'm not sure about the 8s, but my 7 also suffers from fuel dilution and the oil tends to look like swamp water even right a change, so I change it often, about every 2.5 k.
I also recall seeing others mentioning that synthetic is not good when breaking in a new motor after a rebuild, not sure if that would include a new RX8.

im staying with conventional oil becasue if i ever need warranty work i dont want to get any crap for using synthetic. sounds dumb but my dealers' service guys can be real asses when it comes to warranty work.

I spoke with one of the Mazda Techs who works on RX8's and he said that syn is ok to use in an 8 and in his OPINION it wasn't worth the cost.

In my 8 I use Castrol GTX 5W20, a $20 oil change every 3k miles isn't bad at all and an additional $2 for a quart between changes.

It's all up to personal preference on what you like, keeping in mind that Mazda might give you a hard time if something happens to the Renesis.. Then again some of the dealers are putting in 10W30 because they don't know any better.
