stock: H-Stock(HS)
modified: STF, STS

you'll run against other four door sedans. neons and stuff.

Does that mean any mods?? I have a an intake and exhaust. Am I considered in the Mod. class? I thought there were a few exceptions to the the stock class. Or am i just retarted?

intake and exhaust will put you in STS, where they allow most bolt-on suspension upgrades and simple intake/exhaust mods.

STS is mostly 4 cyl non-turbo cars IIRC...

stock class means exactly that, stock everything except a cat-back exhaust

in terms of stock classes, Neons are actually in GS (same as MP3). Mazdaspeed Proteges are in DS (same as Mini Cooper S and SE-R Spec V)

'stock' proteges/protege5's are in HS (the lowest stock class listed)

that being said, if you've never autocrossed before, prepare to get majorly OWNED by the veterans.

well i raced her in SCCA:confused: .
its kind of weard driving a Front wheel drive. the first time out i was driving it like i drove my AWD subaru. and i got a time of 60.9, kinda pissed me off:mad: . so my friend who has been driving front wheel drive his entire life told me some pointers, so my next time out i got a 55.8:D , witch i was happy with. run after that i got a 54.8 and thats where i stayed. and i am pritty amazed with the performane of the car exetp a couple of things. a LSD is a must for me. and it seems like the engine runs out of breath at around 6K:( . im plaining on gitting a Short shifter w/ busching, Catback exaust , intake, KYB AGX struts and Eighbok(sp?) springs, crossdriled and sloted rotors w/ better pads, rear strut bar, sway bars all around.
i was planing on staying is HS but the car sucks to bad in stock form. hopefully by the time next season starts i have all the mods i have listed above and a LSD instaled as well. and turbo whould be good as well.

yup. that's the "problem"...finding a class in which your car can be competitive. honestly, the ES/P5 is a fantastic HS car, but will not do so well in other classes (for many reasons). for example, an LSD will put you into SM, where in Philly, you are running against wicked fast WRX's. definition of own3d.

my advice if you are seriously trying to compete in solo II is stay in HS. first get some R-compounds (Kumho Ecsta V700's will fit the stock rims). cat back and adjustanle dampers (but NOT springs) will also help, but as you have seen, the driver is where most of the improvement lies. get some tires and practice, practice, practice.

PAX is an indexed list of all drivers where your best time is multiplied by a factor according to class (e.g. STX's factor might be .825 while HS's factor might be .755). the idea is to compensate for the car's ability and list the best drivers of the day. you can usually do well in PAX b/c the HS multiplier is pretty good. often, those results will give you a decent idea of your relative standing and improvement.

yup, 3rd gen Proteges do quite well in HS with proper tires.

but watch out for those non-S/C MINI Coopers, those things have been dominating HS in my region (well just this one guy w/ the Mini :D )

when i had my subaru 2.2 L impreza. i was in HS and im not trying to brag or anything but i killled in HS, i beat every car by 3sec. in my class. i whould have to compare my times to GS where my friends whould race there WRX's and i whould be only .5 off or .5 ahead:p . i miss my subaru:( .
but im planing on a turbo and allot of other things in my car. i actualy made a list of things im gitting and its 2 pages lond and not finished. about 20k-25k into a P5 and no one will be able to touch me;) . but its 25k i dont have so its time to start saving.

Technically speaking, as the rules stand right now, adding an LSD will put you into STX. There is talk about changing that so that you cannot add an LSD and stay in street touring. I think that is a major error, but I don't have much say, and I've already made it....

To put it more simply: If you get an LSD on your P5, you could run in FSP (F street prepared on race tires against cars like old AE86 Corollas) SM (street modified on race tires against BMW M3s and WRXs with LOTS of power) or STX (steet touring 'X' against WRXs, ITRs, 5.0L mustangs and camaros and my MSP ;) )
