Do you still have the papers from when you purchased your 3? The papers should tell you if it's a federal or california model.

8th digit in VIN...if it's "M" it's a cali model. if it's "L" it's federal

might be something with the way the EVAP system works. i know for motorcycles you have to know which one it is for EVAP repairs, cuz if a wrong part is installed bad stuff can happen. a bike tech told me a customer's tank caved in on itself because a wrong part was installed

on the mazda....its something with the charcoal canister. i can't put my finger on it, i have the manual and look at diagrams for the cali model and non-cali model. also the fuel tank is different

yup i live in pa and my speed is a cali model its under the hood just above the battery cover

Humor has it the cali model is slower due to cali emission standards. Crank hp rating on cali MS3's are 250hp/265ft/tq. If you add a intake you'll be up to stock MS3 power levels.
