what kind pf battery should i get

If you have a Costco card, the Kirkland battery is highly rated. Optima's aren't worth the money.

I would get a braille, but that would be for weight savings not to power some bulls*** audio equipemnt

iunno man i love my optima battery. it had did me well. ive had it for about 4 years. and recently in the chicago winter since i dont drive it much. i have anohter car for winter driving. it sat for about 5 weeks. and i went out and decided to try and start it and started right up like a champ.

i also have 2, 12" subs and a thousand watt amp going to it

Yea I upgraded my stock battery to an Optima Red Top when I bought the car in May of 05. Still running like a champ...just my .02

unless you acutely need it spiral cell batteries are not ideal for DD"s.. if it ever dies on you you're going to have to trickle charge it instead of jumping. Then there's the whole finicky way they give up too, which could leave you stranded a few times.

Hello, I saw some confusion regarding our batteries and was hoping I could clarify some things. If you are running extensive aftermarket audio equipment, a YellowTop is strongly recommended. NRRfrogmanP5, if your vehicle sits for weeks at a time, a battery tender/maintainer is a great investment, which will help extend the life of any battery you have.

An Optima battery can be jump-started, just like any other battery. However, any battery that is deeply-discharged should be fully recharged with a battery charger as soon as possible. I realize this isnt always convenient, but relying on an alternator to recharge a deeply-discharged battery can lead to a cycle of dead batteries and jumps until either the battery or alternator fail.

Most of the bad batteries returned to us now are just deeply-discharged and work just fine when properly recharged. Most chargers will not recharge batteries discharged below 10.5 volts. Most standard flooded batteries discharged to that degree are not recoverable. Deeply-discharged Optima batteries can be recovered by using this charging technique- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIoaL3DWWEg

If you have any other battery-related questions, Ill do my best to answer them.

I've had two cars-both on Optima batteries-both with stock alternators-both with high power aftermarket stereo systems.

Neither car experienced problems with the battery.

I'll have to throw in another in favor of Optima batteries. Had a redtop in my last car with a modest array of electronics suckling at its teet and nary had I experienced a hiccup in any conditions. When my stock battery is on its last legs, I'm going straight to another Optima.

this is exactly the problem. Don't get me wrong.. They work just fine, I happen to know about a dozen people that use them and only 2 have had 'problems' but only to the extent that they decided to treat it as a lead cell battery instead of a spiral cell. *I* know how to properly charge a spiral cell, most people do not, nor do they have a charger which can charge it properly, nor does your average tow truck driver, which creates a worse case scenario *if* they somehow become discharged. Which is why I personally do not suggest them unless in recreational or audio extensive situations.

sephiroth, you can jump-start and charge an Optima, just like any other battery, under normal conditions. The technique in the video link I posted is only for deeply-discharged Optimas (<10.5 volts). Most battery chargers will not recharge any battery discharged below 10.5 volts unless a parallel technique is used and most flooded batteries that are discharged below 10.5 volts are not recoverable. This video offers more information on battery charging- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkAr1Uj2EOg

Yes, they can be jump started just fine. If it appeared that I re-iterated that false point on my second post that was not my intention.

we run optima blue tops in our boats, work great handling all the G's and sea state. not sure if the red tops are necessary for our cars, but neither are all the other mods we buy for our toys right?

Living in a state where it gets boiling hot much of the year (OP is in TX, I am in FL), I use Optima batteries just because they withstand the constant heat far better than most standard batteries. Sure, they'll prorate the battery for a couple of years, but I'd rather just not have the damned thing die on me in the first place. Thus, Optima.

The 2 I have had so far lasted well over 5 years each. Never had a standard battery last more than 3-4 in this heat, and many have given out after just 2 years or so. And I don't run lots of electronic goodies & audio upgrades.

I'll run my stocker until it dies, then I'll be shopping Optima.

I worked at batteries plus for a good while, the Kirkland is s*** they are lighter than their competitors because they use less lead, the optima is a great battery to use, top of the line though especially fir highheat is an odessey,
