what kind of port do i need to reset and check diagnostics?

I think our cars has an OBD II. my friend has an obd II port hook up and lap top on his car and he said that it should work on my car. i know on my old car a 2001 Golf TDI i needed a Vag-com. What can i buy that i can reset my cel and check diagnostics and other things? how much and where can i get them?

My friend Subywan bought thew hookup you're talking about, You should probably email him and ask where he got it from. You can also reset your ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. Although it can be considered the ghetto way, it works.
