I thought it might be useful for people that are new to autocross / trackdays, etc. to see what kinds of helmets everyone has.

I figured it might also be fun to see pictures of everyone's helmets and the various decals, paintschemes, what have you that are on them.

heres mine:

Mine is a full face Pyrotect 5410, I got it from DiscoveryParts.com, they're based in Fayetteville Ga, and I've heard and experienced nothing but good things about them.

that's the exact one I have

Pros:
Relatively inexpensive

Cons:
Paint chips easy
Foam around eye opening came off

I'm looking into getting a new helmet as the padding is starting to come off the shell. HJC has one i like, but it's pretty expensive:

I like the flat black alot! I wanted to get my Pyrotect in the flat black, but DiscoveryParts didn't carry them.

Did you peel the black strip off of the top of your visor? Last time I was over at your place I don't recall seeing it.

I've got a crappy open face HJC that I bought for autox years ago. Been looking at buying an Impact or Sparco full face soon though.

yeah i did. i put a stripe of red electrical tape across the top of the visor and round the base of the helmet. Racing stripes = +59whp

Pretty comfy, and I might get it painted at some point.

A purple one. :D

Just kidding... red Zamp J-1. Cheapest Snell-05 helmet you can buy. $65 shipped from compacc.

Don't see the need for a full-face helmet for auto-x/trackdays in a street car with a windshield.

I bought a full face HJC on closeout for $45. Now I just need to use it.

I have a windshield in the RX7 but I liked the look of the Full Face and the ability to keep rubber marbles flying in the non-existent side windows out of my face. haha

Interesting. I've not experienced problems with marbles flying into the car. (uhm)

Sometimes they just come flying at the right (or wrong) angle. haha

I can imagine. It probably helps that I have much smaller windows than you, too. :D

Yeah, 2nd Gen RX7's have quite large side windows. :) And slicks throw off a ton of rubber, I find. Our car is covered in it (white car with black rubber marks all over the hood, roof, sides, everywhere).

Yeah, I have a ton of skid-marks on my Lotus, too, but only about as high as the belt-line.

The weird thing is the ginaormous chunks of spent rubber that I find stuck to the inside of the wheels and in the side scoops.
:wtf:

We pulled huge chunks out from between the inside of the fender and the door hinges, and a whole ton from under the car, inside the wheels, everywhere I can imagine. There's a big glob on the mufflers right now. haha Just melts it every time.

Bug and Tar Remover is our friend. (drive)

This off-topic rant brought to you by Kane & Jenn! :D

The moral of the story: When going wheel to wheel, beware of flying rubber. :)

I've got the G-Force Pro Force Hybrid I got from discoveryparts.com

Good helmet, but I'm kind of sick of dealing with sunglasses in helmet. I think I may end up getting a full face with an amber face shield for my next one. Maybe next season budget allowing. It's not that they're uncomfortable, this helmet actually has side-channels for them to fit w/o crushing them into your scull, but taking them on and off every run tends to make smudges... and cleaning those with a sweaty shirt doesn't really work all that well. However, the visor with the tinted 'strip' at the top does work very well. Also, i can't really use this for our infrequent go-kart outings ;)

And I'm with luke, the mo' graphics the better ;). I may have to get the italian flag on the next one running down the back :D
