What is this on the front dash?

Hi, I have this annoying creak over bumps happening near this spot and was wondering what this piece of plastic is? This plastic piece is only on the driver side near the front window past the gauges (no matching piece on the passenger side)...

Yes, I know I'll get a few comedic replies...

Found my own answer straight from the owner's manual:

Sunlight/Temperature Sensor: The fully automatic air conditioner function measures inside and outside temperatures, and sunlight. It then sets temperatures inside the passenger compartment accordingly. Don't obstruct the sensor.
