Another safety-minded facet of the MAZDA6s standard ABS system is the integrated electronic traction control system (TCS), which helps maintain directional stability regardless of road conditions. If the control computer senses that the front and rear wheel speeds are out of sync on a slick surface due to loss of grip, the computer will reduce engine power automatically.

This reaction is both instantaneous and seamless to the driver, and provides yet another example of the added safety components offered by the 2005 MAZDA
6. The TCS system also can be turned off should conditions warrant it.

yep.. that's the traction control system.. the button is on the little panel to the left of the steering wheel where the light dimmers are. If you turn it off it'll say "TCS OFF" on your dashboard in yellow.

TCS is designed for a moving vehicle so if you get stuck in mud or snow, by no means use it to free yourself. Don't have it on hand but will find page and post it. Most of america turns it off after innitialy starting the vehicle. Some actualy beleve doing this helps MPG.

So far, I have only had it off when I want to get the rear end squirrly in the snow...LOL! Generally speaking though, I leave it on as it is a safety device. If you find yourself in an emergency situation how likely is it that you will be able, or even remember to hit the button to turn it back on? Wtih the ice that we have had around here recently (30 car pileup Arnprior Thursday, 50+ car pileup Montreal Thursday, and another multi-car pileup Ottawa-area Friday), I am not touching anything. I can live with the gas mileage I'm currently getting (~400km/tank, mixed city-highway driving).

with the MS6 is difrent cause you also have the AWD to factor in where most older drivers or people who never had cars with it prior feel that TCS and ABS a nucance or crutch. 6 has neither and 300a only has abs and I never felt cheated in the snow.
