What have you done to your P5 today?

That sucks. A friend had the non-folding single-bike version of the Sportworks rack (the original design of the Thule rack you have) on his Miata. With no bike on it, someone failed to see it, and rear-ended it. Of course, if they hit a one-bike rack, they were too damned close anyway!

Did see them hit your rack? If not, did they leave a note?

why would anyone ever leave a note? people arent nice like that

i should be able to bend a lot of it back into place with a hammer and some heat though, hopefully

A little over a year an a half ago I took off my exhaust manifold heat shield because it was very loose and making noise. While removing it I stripped the middle bolt's head. I tried everything I could at the time to remove it, I even went so far as to attempt drilling it out but the weird angle caused me to break a drill bit in the bolt head. I still managed to repair the rusty heat shield with scrap metal and pop rivets but I never got that bolt out.

Fast forward a year and a half; today it hit me that that bolt was still stuck there. It was a perfect opportunity to test out my bolt extractors which I bought a while back but so far haven't been very useful. At first I tried taking it out by hand but that wasn't working, the extractor kept slipping. So I hammered the extractor onto the bolt head and hit it with an impact wrench running at relatively low pressure. A few seconds later and the bolt is out!

Here's a pic of the threads, they look brand new!

And here's the carnage which is/was the bolt head:

If you look closely you can see where one of the extractor's "teeth" bit into the head. Cool, eh?

^Nice! I hate it when little stuff like that is stuck. It's no big deal, but YOU know it's there!

I didn't do anything to my P5 today except drive and enjoy it. I took the Wife, Daughter, and Mom to Estes Park, CO and into the Rocky Mountain National Park. Beautiful drive, and the little wagon did great! Blasted AC the whole way too.

My p5 got booted out of it's garage spot this weekend. Getting back to restoring my dad's '69 Firebird convertible...

Now it's subject to this treatment until November-ish...:( :( :(

Don't worry, it won't rust that bad :D

How's your P5 been treating you? I haven't heard any complaints so I can only assume it's running smoothly.

Lol, it should be fine...no salt in rain water. :)

And yea, it's running pretty good! Just need to take care of little knit picky stuff that I've been too lazy to do since getting it on the road. I've just been enjoying it! haha Still need to...

Fix the "no A/C on 2 and 3" problem
Install audio
Install Prosport Voltmeter and Water temp gauges
Attatch driver side mirror cover
Get 3M clear bra material for top of rear bumper. Dogs are doing a number on it from jumping in and out.
Brakes on all 4 corners. Fronts squeal BAD, and something's rattling around in the driver rear that seems to be brake related. The noise goes away if I apply a little brake pressure.

Probably some other things I'm forgetting too. lol I need to do something with the rear cargo area before audio install. Mock up a false floor or something, cause the carpet/wood piece is sagging bad and needs support. I'm waiting to find a p5 at a yard so I can **** it for whatever I need!

Just got home after a 7 and a half hour drive in THIS!! My new baby! I'll still be hanging around the 3rd gen threads but I has a new ride!

changed the oil and cleaned it a bit. need new headlights and to get it retinted and some new interior pieces

So it looks like its about 450 for a KL, but I know the overall cost for the swap still would work out more than just a replacement engine, so I'm thinking of finding a decent msp motor with complete turbo and throwing that in and going from there with a new ECU and calling it a day. Now, just to find a motor/turbo that is decent enough to use.

Good luck with that one...
