What have you done to your P5 today?

idk where everybody gets this burning oil thing from
i was at 208k miles with no oil burning and my brother is at 180k with no oil burning
and we both dont drive like grandma's at all lol

i see lots of posts about burning oil. i know 3 that did. (chris, rob, ty)

maybe they have all died, and that is why we dont see as much about that anymore.

we are at 185k and we are burning a qt every 3k or so, we just shortened our interval up to 4k oil changes until the engine gets rebuilt with some fs-ze stuff

thought about giving the p5 to the fiance and getting a ms3 hatch that i saw at a dealer... bad thing is, looks like its already modded with exhaust, scanport, and a few other goodies... but it does look really nice

hmm...weird
i never had that problem, is it bad valve seals or bad rings that cause it to burn oil?
when i rebuilt my engine the rings looked pretty decent, the valves however...looked horrible lol
i never realized how much gunk gets on the intake valves just from normal driving, no more EGR and no more PCV should keep it clean from now on though

It's mostly ex-protege guys who have "upgraded" to newer Mazdas and now think they are better than all of us who love our Protege's. We should all start going into the Miata forums and asking about how much they love shoe shopping, baking cookies and reading Self magazine.

I'm in a bad mood.

its all in how well the car was modified...i just bought my first pre modified used car and i am so happy its going to save me a TON of money, time, and issues because of it. I just realized the downfall of sounding like a ricer though when people ask about whats on the car and i cant identify certain parts

For the g/f's car its the rings because it only burns under high load not off idle. we havent been running an egr for years now...pcv shouldnt cause alot of problem though. Seafoam or products like it can help the buildup of the gunk however the only actually surefire cleaning method is steam.

ehhh i mean if i could buy a msp with a built engine, welded diff, and with coilovers for a decent price sure...but until somebody figures out an easy way to make reliable power out of a protege there are better options thats all

haha

at least phen still loves his protege too.

and i want a miata. if my protege was a manual, i would probably keep it for a project car.

the protege just has great style.

the 3 seems kinda bloated to me. certain angles make it look kinda ugly.

Well we got the p5 finally finished in the body shop the other...just about every ding, dent, gouge, ect has been removed, we also put all new emblems on the back, had the whole car buffed and waxed, and i put the slipstream/azenis back on. I just cleaned the pollen off of it and took some pics i cant wait for pollen season to be over here.

i upgraded to an older mazda ;). and so what i like shoe shopping? i do it at redline while pulling g's and no engine go boom ;). my (3rd) motor was burning 1 quart a day at 80k. my first fsde ate vtcs screws at 30k. my second motor spun a bearing. all with an intake and an axle back, and towards the last 15k or so of the 3rd it had a header. redlined it now and then, nothing crazy. nothing i didnt do with my 1st gen protege or my current miata, neither of which complain. i finally got sick of dealing with the motor being a maintenance item. some people get factory freaks that last appropriate amounts of time. that is the exception not the rule. check the responses. of ~10 people to respond there are people that have changed oil change intervals, replaced their motors and done rebuilds. there is a reason i traded in my BEAUTIFUL very modded car with tons of my time, heart, energy and money in for less than what the coilovers were worth. i was done and sick. and the reason i still follow this thread is because i had, modded and raced a protege for over 5 years. i know some of the problems and i check to see if someone has an issue i can help with. if i happen to poke a little fun now and then, its because i can. i've been there, done that, have 2 protege 5 tshirts that i still rock, and i still have a soft spot for the car
