What have you done to your P5 today?

Haha thanks for the quick response... Was at the store picking one up when I got it!

Sent from my blackberry sorry about the crappy formatting

My eyelids are getting there:

Don't worry, there will be wetsanding before the clear.

It should fill in with a couple coats of paint, the primer was starting to fill it in.

Also, I'll wetsand before I do the last 2-3 coats of yellow, that will smooth it out considerably.

Fifth and final coat of the night:

Tomorrow comes wetsanding, one to two more coats of yellow, followed by clear.

Is that the matching yellow? Or krylon? I have a set that I wan to paint classic red but cannot kind anything local.

Got it stuck in a bunch of icy chunky nasty snow in my parents' long-ass driveway. Took 1 hour 3 minutes to go the 150-ish yards to the plowed road. That sucked.

Once we got out, the shifter felt like it was moving through wet sand, the way it gets when you sit in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour on a 100* day. I guess rocking it and spinning the tires as much as we did reeeeeeeally heated up the transmission.

After a while of steady driving at speed with 36* temps, the tranny cooled down, and everything went back to normal! :D

It's a Rustoleum paint can, the color is called "sunburst yellow", same name as the factory color so I figured I'd try it out. I held the cap up to the car and it looks like a nearly dead on match. We'll see how it goes tomorrow, I'll make a mock up for pics if the paint is fully dry by then.

For those who know about paint, should I wetsand with 800 then work my way up to 2000 or should I just wetsand with 800 since I'll be doing some more base coats afterwards?

looking good. but you should've really atleast used glazing putty to remove some of the dimples.

Sorry I should've just made this into one thread :(
Honestly you really could've saved some time doing the following
Apply thin layer of glazing putty, sand smooth, spray primers, base, clear a few times, wetsand 1000 - 1500 - 2000. Buff firmly with mid grit rubbing compound, and follow with polishing compoud (I find turtle wax brand is best) then wax. you could have done that all in one night.

Damn, I didn't know about the glazing putty! :(

Am I screwed now since I didn't use that? Will wetsanding then applying more base coat not get rid of the dimples?

Quick question; doing a turbo rebuild and install on the msp and in the meantime getting a new exhaust for it (Thermal R&D for P5, extended to fit MSP). I'm just wondering, I want to use the current stock RacingBeat MSP exhaust on the P5. Can I just trim it down to make it work? Will everything else fit/work after it's trimmed down to proper length?

probably not.. if I were you I would sand it down some with probably 120 grit or maybe 320 just to scuff it up a little from the paint you already laid. then slap some glazing putty on there and follow my steps above.

Just FYI I would use the Dupli-Color sunburst yellow rattle can touch up paint from Autozone. I used that to paint the interior of a customers car. Worked wonderfully... after sanding and smoothing I just laid 1 coat of primer 3 coats of base, 2 coats of clear didn't even have to wetsand but still used the rubbing compound and polish.

Since your painting such small pieces you shouldn't get too much "dust" from overspray and what not. so if you do it right you shouldn't have problem ;). Shoot if your in Cbus ohio drop them off to me for a day or so and supplies or cash and I'll take care of them for you. no problem if not then just follow the above steps.
