What have you done to your MSP today?

I need to clean up my headlights bad. Anyways I got to drive my MSP tonight! Worked on it all day and it started right up. I may have a slight vacuum leak as it was idling a little funny at first but that may be due to the VTCS being deleted. No CELs so far and its timed right, couldnt be happier!

the old motor i got with the car when i bought it, guy said it was knocking like crazy so i took it all apart today. he told me he thought he blew a rod. well i come to find out the rods are fine, and everything else looks great.
any idea of what could have went wrong in that motor?
plus i'm going to use it to forge it and run more boost :) on my daily driver msp.
spun bearing would be my guess

Im stumped and really worried about my MSP. It was smoking a little after i got it together last night which i thought was spilled oil or coolant burning off but after driving it today its still smoking. Smoke is coming off the outside of the first Cat. I noticed that first cat had oil on it while replacing the head gasket but its never smoked like it is now. Its weird because it smells like burning coolant, not oil. So the oil leak must be even worse, which doesnt make any sense after replacing the HG. I removed the knock sensor to put new thread seal on it and thats where i thought it was leaking before. But like I said im stumped and afraid to drive my MSP.

Are the rings wore out? that would explain the oil but, if its burning coolant then you might not have got something right on the HG.

I'd check the oil filter as well as the oil sender/turbo oil tee. I hate to ask but did u get the block deck cleaned? If not the HG could have not sealed to the matting surfaces. Also is the exhaust coming out the tail pipe smoking? Is the smoke white or a bluish?

Speedypro, car looks good man. I also use my iPhone quite a bit for the forums, if you download photobucket you can upload your pics and then copy and paste the pics to here. Nice shots though!

I always use my phone lol

So excited about the speed 6 front brakes to get so I can throw them on tonight. Also adding su front and rear mm and a 626 im to a friends msp aafter work :/ not looking forward to that

Thanks for the replies, I found the coolant leak, tiny pinhole in the lower radiator hose that was squirting coolant onto the S pipe. No smoke out of the exhaust at all, cleaned the block deck surface but didn't have it machined true like the head. I think the HG is good, car seems to have plenty of power, i'm also enjoying it without the VTCS for the first time. Now to find the oil leak on the back of the block...

Have fun with that rear mm.
Honestly the first time it was a pain, but the second time (on HaleTru's car) it was really easy once the holes were lined up correctly. Taking off that plastic conduit thing on the firewall isn't that bad and is probably the trickiest part.

Man I wouldnt throw the breaks on the car, if they are not properly bolted down they will not work properly..... :D LOL

Ok, so for this P0660 (VICS circuit malfunction), does anyone know the part number for this piece? It's one of those green or white plugs by the IM right?

ok so i've been having this stuttering issue for like 2 weeks now.

this is how the story begins. i decided to reloom and relocate basically most of my engine harness. went to harbor freight and got a bunch of their plastic looming. reloomed all the wires, that go the cam and crank position sensors, injectors, vtcs, vics, purge solenoid, fpc solenoid, iac, tps, egr, ect, both o2 sensors, and deleted the throttle body coolant line.

then on the way to one of the meets the car started stuttering. at first thought it was just bad gas, got some seafoam, and ran it thru like an actual IV drip into the brake booster vacuum line. after most of the seafoam was used thru the vacuum, let it sit for like 5 minutes, and just drove down the block, and it genuinely fixed it, boosting with no hesitation up to 8 psi ( just like it did before). parked it for about another 15 minutes, then left the buddies house and it started jerking and hesitating agian, as soon as i would try to put it under load/boost.

relocated everytihng back to stock.

here come the troubleshooting. boost leak tested it and replaced one of the couplers that was leaking. boost leak tested again, felt that there was air coming out of the drain hole on the wastegate, unplugged that (but never boosted over stock boost( starts stuttering above 3-4 psi)). tried replacing the ignition coils, the wires, the plugs (gaped properly). then got a buddies p5 new maf and map. tested the compression: 175, 171, 172, 180 psi. then tested the fuel pressure: 35psi at idle, and about 34 psi at wot with fuel coming out of the tester drain (what ever u call that test, fuel pump test). tried running with egr harness unplugged, with pressure regulator vaccum line unhooked, both vics and vtsc solenoids unplugged, using my bluetooth obd scanner verified timing, and throttle position, (both same as before the stutter). obd was also throwing pending codes for either cyl 1 or cyl 3 misfire.

long story short, went to pepboys, to use my buddies legitimate Snap On obd live data logger, during the test drive, started knocking. went home, compression tested again. half pulse compression and full compression for the following cylinders respectively. 90/175, 50/120, 90/175, 90/175. bad compression in cyl 2. drained the oil, and there was a shiny bronze flake ( sorta like nail polish) to the engine oil.

any suggestions other then the obvous, rings and bearings replacement?
