What have you done to your MSP today?

My car is running like crap. At normal driving conditions the AFR's are either 10.0 on the wideband or --- I just replaced a vac line going to the AFC yesterday and it ran fine afterwards. on my profec E-01 its showing vac of 10.0 psi usually it runs about 10.5 to 10.4 so I have a little leak. But I think a wire might have came loose on the AFC down next to the ECU causing the problem. Ill have to wait till I get home to dig in and see what the deal is.

Maybe you're just set up differently, but in the MSP a vac reading of 10.5 would point to a serious leak somewhere. Most are running vac at 20+... mine is consistently between 22 & 23 psi. If I were you I'd want to hook up a different wideband for a "second opinion".

10.5 psi not inches of merc.

So 10.5 psi is 21.38 inches of mercury. So normally I do not have a leak. But now my vac is slightly lower than it normally is at 10.0 PSI so I have a slight leak.
normal vac is nearly double what you're reading in PSi... theres no conversion to merc involved.

Yeah... actually, I made two mistakes above. Confused psi with inches of mercury, and suggested a wideband when I meant to say boost/vac gauge.
The truth is that there are so many different little glitches that will cause the MSP to run poorly (especially when modded) that it can be hard to point at any one thing. Thats why I have spent a year replacing everything from egr valve to coilpacks and plugs, to timing & drive belts, wga, vac lines, etc. Basically, everything that could cause the car to run erratically, not because it was but because its nearly 7 years old and I didn't want it to.

Actually Wagon, I believe he's right.... the boost/vac gauge reads boost in psi (or bar) but reads vacuum in inches of mercury; not psi.

Lol trust me on this one. Im right. My boost gauge when i had my autometer that acutally worked would show 21 inches of merc and the boost controller would show 10.5 psi. so i know that my conversions are right.

my gauge is labeled in PSI for both.. but the conversion rate would explain why for the same needle sweep you get twice as many units in vac as you do in boost. i consider myself edjimicated.

Yeah, it was an honest mistake and you were trying to help us. But i don't know why my car is running like crap. I replaced a vac line going to my afc and the PCV valve and I drove it around town and it was fine and ran like a champ then I go to the boat dock down into the gravel parking lot that severely needs attention but she ran fine to where i parked her and then when i came off the boat to get back in my car it was running like crap. sputtering up the hill and carrying on. I used these vampire clips is what i call them but they go on the wire and you just crimp them on and the go into the wire and make a connection. usually they are blue. but anyways that was like two years ago and everything was running fine. people said i would have problems out of them I wonder if one of those things came loose when i was driving over the ruts in the parking lot. I have the car tore apart now and I am about to start in on the connections and make sure they are all good. but you have to excuse me its 18 degrees out side and i just pulled my car into the garage so its cold as hell. everything you touch is freezing!

yeah, my turbo time just died on me and I'm wondering if it may be for the same reason. it may have just up and died because it happened when I did and ECU reset/EGR clean/seafoam...

yea the cold weather here has completely ruined the afc tune as well.

I have the gunmetal weapons on my car currently

Little does he know that I've secretly been drooling over pictures like the one posted of his car with the gunmetal weapons. After all, that is the best preview I can possibly get of how they will look on my car.

I am really confused as to why my car is so rich as well. I got the AFC installed back in October I think, and still my wideband reads off the charts most of the time. I am still waiting to get it tuned, but I was told even with the stock map it should lean it out a little bit. If you figure it out let me know.

well its my car just running lie poo. It dont have anything to do with the tune. cause last winter it didnt have any problem.

These are the culprit to my problems. I went through and found out several loose connections and to be honest I am suprised the AFC was even working cause I know for a fact there was one bad connection and two other wires pulled out real easy. So i just went through and soldered everything. I should have done this in the first place.

Well enough with the rambling on with the pics!

Ok JoeKnox. i know you will get a kick out of this cause two years ago you said I would have problem out of those clamps and they would leave me on the side of the road some day. well it didn't leave me stranded but i did have to limp home. :D I soldered them like you told me too. now its a permanent job.

Good to hear. It's pretty easy to get a solder joint off, so I really don't see the point of using connectors when soldering everything is so easy. It really doesn't take any more time if you know what you're doing.

So the car is running good now?

Yeah, when I first got the car I knew some about cars but I didn't have the experience I have now (worked at my family's car garage for a summer and worked on a lot of my friends cars). So I really wasn't that good at soldering and was kinda scared of it. I had a hard time getting it to flow good over the wires but now I am fluent in the ways of soldering lol i can actually get really good flow now that I have wired a few things in and got some practice. When i say permanent i mean i wont have to mess with it till i upgrade to a AEM FIC.

Yeah she runs good now. I didn't get on it or anything cause she was not up to temp and it has been hitting fuel cut at 10psi in this 18 degree weather. but she seems like she is running great.

Took my car into the shop to get a laundry-list of things 'fixed' or looked at:

Oil Change (Royal Purple 10w30)
Exhaust Leak fix (left side of engine, think its causing my misfire)
Swaybar bushing replacement (Front)
Look into a gear oil replacement (Royal Purple)

Now I'm just waiting to give me a call to see what they found/are going to do...
