What have you done to your MSP today?

Also, I had a guy tell me that because the MSP's turbo is recirulating (it is isn't it?) that a blow off valve would cause the turbo to fail more rapidly than normal. Let me get you into the frame of reference here. We were at a meet and a dude in an older STI drove by and had some major pssshht sounds of a BOV. I said "Hell, I could do that with a BOV." Obviously not on stock plastic pipes.

The question here being, was he right? Obviously not on stock pipes but if I got a hard pipe kit and wound up going with BOV would my turbo die quicker?

Shame you guys don't live closer to me, I have at least 3 guys who paint for a living here and do excellent work and very reasonable prices

Yes... the stock turbo uses a bypass valve (BPV) and is a fully re-circulating setup. And yes... you could go with hardpipes and put a blowoff valve (BOV) on the cold pipe. There are all kinds of pics on the forum from MSP owners who have done so. For example, If you can find Justin Lansdale's vid on youtube you can hear his BOV.

Will the BOV cause the turbo to die? Hard to say... turbos die. When they do, it can be hard to determine why. I think its more likely that turbos die on MSP's with BOV's because the people with modded setups tend to run the boost higher... more pressure in the system means more pressure ON the system.

^^^ im gonna go with no a blow off will not cause the turbo to die quicker in any case..unless of course the bov is not working. the purpose of the bov and the bpv are both to release pressure which they are both doing and need to do. otherwise yea, the turbo is gonna fail. (bov and bpv both allow the turbo to slow down without air slamming back into the fins)

Droped her off at the shop to get inspected and other stuff installedddddd, like my motor mounts and turbo mani.

found out my cold pipe is cracked where it meets the "intercooler" which would explain why i only get fluctuated readings from my gauge under boost. YAY
