What have you done to your Miata today?

With a little help from some friends we pulled the transmission off last night.

Stock clutch package: 27.6 lbs. The replacement will be ~14, and what rotating mass there is will be closer in, which is mo' betta.

Stock flywheel weight (fully 4+ lbs heavier than the full replacement package :D)

Since there's a few different sized bolts, I like keeping things in order:

Brilliant idea to poke the bolts through some cardboard. I wish I had done that when I replaced my clutch and flywheel!

Ive been pretty quiet around here... Slowly been stocking it out and its going up for sale towards then end of next week.

Yeah I will miss her...
its been a fun two years, but I just can stand driving a small car everyday anymore.

Miatas are awesome cars but for somebody who is 6 foot and little over 200lbs. it just sucks.

Lose some weight, damn.

... Oh wait, I'm 6'1" 200lbs. :(

Are you still looking at getting a Speed3?

Nearly everyone I know that owns a miata fits into that category. If you want to sell it, sell it. Don't make excuses.

Found out why the clutch started slipping & why the bell housing has so much crud caked on, and where the fluid we couldn't track down last night came from. I pulled the input shaft cover / release bearing fork pivot and fluid poured out. Guess I need a couple more seals.

Yeah I can't say anything because the most I've driven my Miata is like two weeks in a row. If I ever feeling like riding in relative "comfort" I have another car. Haha.

ok....
That doesn't change the fact that I cant stand driving a small slow car everyday. Frankly the car cant be enjoyed in this flat ass state anyway. Just going to sell it to an old person that is probably on their way out.
I want something that I fit comfortably in. That I can load all my stuff into and go chill with my friends and that can get out of its own way.

Car has 100K on it which i know is nothing for a BP, but I want to sell it while I can still get something for it.
there is no turning back now anyway. Car has no roll bar on it, wheels are gone, and a few other parts i had. Not going to re buy stuff.

Moving on to a better platform (IMO)
Not posting anything till it actually happens though.

Better platform for what? Straight line e-peen gloating? I smell an MS3 in your future.

But yeah, Florida roads are boring as ****. Unless you autocross every other weekend, that would get boring in a hurry. And man, I don't wanna hear "slow car" from any of y'all here. Drive some old Japanese cars. My first car was an 83 Accord with 85 hp.

The Ford Aspire I drove for about 3 years. 18.7@69.5

Was fun in the corners though. 2004 lb curb weight stock (mine was stripped), had Miata daisies on it.

Put her on a dyno today, pretty happy with the results: 180.5 whp & 158 torque, which translates to 194.1 whp & 169.9 on a DynoJet.

It's a MazdaSpeed, so of course its running rich (stock ECU)

Found out my replacement clutch probably won't get here at least for another week, maybe 2. 949 says they've got it sitting on the shelf waiting to go out, but they ran into a problem with the last batch of one of the small parts being out of spec and needing to be re-done. I'm glad I'm finding out about this now and not after it's installed, but it still sucks :-/

Dyno'd mine at the same dyno day that Pablo did. It was completely impromptu, but they were running ahead of schedule, and I had money in my wallet, so I figured why not.

Results: 171 hp / 154 tq.

Before anyone says "Oh, you have all that work done to yours and that's all you put down?" Yes... physical labor installing parts. Pablo and I put a bunch of time in on the turbo upgrade. But this dyno was meant to be a baseline of all baselines. No boost controller, so I'm running wastegate pressure (7 psi). No tune. I'm actually running the bad tune that the old VJ35 was running on at 12+ psi. So, all things considered, I'm plenty happy with those numbers. It has nowhere to go but up. Looking back, I'm hitting the same power on the new turbo at 7 psi that I was at 12+psi on the old turbo. That already tells me that I'm on the road to much more power.

(pics to be added later)

Ok, here we go. Photos of the dyno to compare with Pablo's car.
