What have you done to your Miata today?

Very nice Levi!!! Loud only begins to describe that custom exhaust. Lol

Cool Andrew.

Ive been enjoying the record breaking temps all week and driving to and from work with the top down and only a lightweight jacket.

Getting closer. Air dam is next. Or rear splitter, depending on if I can get help. Cutting a big piece of ABS like that is, for me at least, nigh impossible. If I had a large bandsaw and a TON of space I could make it work, but with a jig saw? Ain't happenin'.

Of course, I couldn't do it without a little help ;)

Nice kids growing up huh?

Trying to raise them nice, but kids being kids, they're usually shiteheads :p

Except for this morning, when Michael (Superman in the previous post) brought a Lego car he'd made up to show me, and before I had a good look at it, pointed out "It has a front splitter!"
At which point I realized that a) it also has a rear spoiler, and b) it looks a lot like what my car would look like if you pulled the doors off. My heart swells with pride :D

Andrew...time to send those boys to Neverland! I remember you posting when they were born. They are getting big for sure!

That lego car is awesome! Gotta love that front splitter.

over the weekend i was checking all my upgrades new seals and i realized i forgot to order a metal shim, which to be honest i didn't even see it...off to mazdaspeed motorsports...

got the Clutch override installed, installed the new injectors and the seat is officially mounted, need to wire up the changes for the new Hydra and then the new Big Spark and i should be ready to fire the car!
i still need to get the Mahk's 6 speed installed into my car, and need to get the new rad/fan setup in the car but neither of those are musts right this week haha

This? This makes me a happy boy :D

A good couple inches taller than the finished product is going to be, but the contour of the trunk-lid is in the right place finally. I may actually need to open up the air-gap a little bit more to get my edge trim in (a flap disk does wonders for making small adjustments btw), which will do a nice job of keeping the high pressure area down there in the notch, and not blow under the spoiler.

started fabbing the "custom" NA door cards last night, have a little more to do on each door but at least they are going in the right direction

Nice! What are you making them out of?

...If I had realized a couple of years ago that this was a possibility for NB doors, I might have bought an NB.... In fact, I probably would have bought my dad's NB! Oh, well. I wouldn't have gotten pop-up lights if I had, so I'm good with the NA! :D

i bought the tops from a 97 i believe. and the bottom is just 1/32" thick ABS plastic sheeting. It took me about 2.5 hours of cutting and trimming to get the passenger side fitting with the speaker and the door handle. I still have to get some webbing and make door pulls for it to be complete. Its been pretty easy so far, just meticulous work with all the trimming of the plastic to fit the way i want it to

What are you using to trim it?

What are you using to trim it?

a knife and a pair of "tin" snips. the snips do the bulk of the cutting to get a rough shape then i clean and tweak with the knife. its just slow going trimming around the door latch and lock, speakers, and trying to match the profile of the door exact etc

Ah right, yours is 1/32. I've found a flap disk on an angle grinder makes a fantastic tool for making small tweaks and adjustments to various plastics and composites (I'm using 1/8" ABS for the spoiler and air dam, and doubled-up 1/8" Dibond for the splitter).

yeah i went with the 1/32 simply cause the goal was to shed a little weight over the stock cards, while clearing more space in the cabin.

Replacing seals and shim should be going in this weekend
