What have you done to your Miata today?

Ooooo, lots of good things happening in here. Spring must be around the corner! (drive2)

Left mine home today. It's raining anyway so I stretched the P5's legs on the highway. Getting closer to 200K.

Gotta love CAD (Cardboard Aided Design)

That's not the final angle or anything, but just so I have a good way to find the curve of the rear of the car, as it's not on a plane.

More work on the splitter. Starting to work on mounting options.

Andrew,

Are you sure that's CAD? It looks more like Cardboard Rapid Article Prototyping, which I do a lot of.

....In fact, most of my modifications start out as CRAP and (sadly) many of them never get beyond that stage!

It's definitely some CRAP :D

Did a little mock up as I've never worked with the loose dzus springs before (prior I'd used brackets that had them pre-installed) on a "spare" trunk lid I was given many moons ago before I start ruining my own trunk lid.
This is the basic jist of the spoiler though. 3 brackets at 65 (the piece of scrap I was doing the mock up with was decidedly not at that angle) that the spoiler will straddle, with quarter-turn wing fasteners, and 4 turnbuckle braces at the back with quick release clevis pins.

Finally finished making the bumper as quick release as it's going to be. 6 quarter turn fasteners, and 2 allen bolts. Unfortunately there wasn't much getting around that where the flares meet the bumper, but I did go ahead and put in a pair riv-nuts so you just need an allen wrench or t-handle, and don't need to mess around with holding a wrench on a nut at the back as well.

What, no zip-ties? (rofl)

Mail lady brought me a present today. My MS has finally returned from Reverant. For anyone interested, it took 11 days for the various postal services to get it back to me. The Greek post office site tracking is even worse than USPS, the last status for a while was for 16 Feb showing it sitting in one place. The final update today was to show it was delivered. I tried checking the USPS site but it did not recognize the Greek tracking number (despite the fact it had to have been checked in some manner).

Anyway, I have it mounted to its bracket for installation in a bit. The pieces that were inside the WB CAN module are now inside of my original unit, and the wiring harness has been modified to have the serial connection for the WB as well as the OBD connection I added. I am not sure what the two extra wires that are twined are for, I've sent Rev a message asking about them.

So you want to know how to take your NB dash apart? Finally got around to pulling the replacement dash apart. See pictures for details. First you have to remove the vent tubes (remove all of them, I left in the one you see in the picture initially but there is a screw behind it). Then there are 10 screws holding the crash bar in place (all are the same except for the one gold screw in the flat bar located beneath the glovebox). You then remove 16 screw to separate the black dash pad from the colored lower section. It was then I found out the VIN tag is attached to a black part that is one piece with the lower section. So I will have to source the correct pop rivets so I can change the VIN tag over.

Just got through installing the MS, doesn't get any easier contorting myself under the dash. Car fired right up, but the CEL is on continuously. Message sent to Reverant to find out what is up with that.

Have know idea why the above comment was posted? Andrew, what's a trailer like yours go for?

Used steel, pretty cheap. I think I got this one for $1200. My old one was less, but had a wood deck.
New steel around $3-4k
New or used aluminum, since they DO NOT depreciate, around $5-6k.

Would you recommend MS ?

Hell yes. The capabilities of one are far above anything you can do with the stock computer using bandaids. If you buy one from Reverant out of Greece he incorporates all kinds of goodies (you would have to ask him what he can do with the latest MS3s he makes, mine is an old MS2 enhanced with upgrades). It's a steep learning curve to tune but there is a lot of information about them. You will spend a few bucks but to me it is worth it.

I forgot to mention it, but the twined wires are to allow me to connect and enable sequential ignition. I need to do some research before heading down that road.

Reverant answered my query about the CEL. I had to connect to TunerStudio, open a new project and let the program detect the new firmware. TS didn't have the necessary updates to operate with the new firmware so that was downloaded. Once I had everything done I fired her up, and all was good. I drove to our local cars & coffee, there were quite a few folks there from the Facebook Miata group I am on so that was fun. Wasn't able to wash her beforehand due to temperature (I have no problem washing a car when it's cold out, but not that cold).

Got her washed this morning and took a drive on one of my favorite backroads this afternoon. Should be some good days this week to permit me to do some tuning.
