What have you done to your Miata today?

tore out the stock radiator since the seal between the plastic top and aluminum bottom failed...

also did timing belt install today...

wow, what a lot of work...

couldn't get it all back together, since I need a stupid simple $1.47 gasket for the thermostat, and autozone was already closed once I realized the gasket was trashed...

but tomorrow I'll be picking up the gasket, and then dropping in a 37mm koyo radiator to finish it up, and never have to worry about overheating issues ever again :D

Ok...so I'm still waiting on my replacement diff to arrive (was 5 oz over the weight limit to be delivered to an APO)...should be here end of the week/early next week.

Also..broke down and bought some wheels.
$150...WITH tires.

I had $75 statshed in paypal, so I got a deal...lol.

Coming from Japan too...nothing fancy.
Going to have my paint shop paint the spokes black and change the center from blue to orange...hopefully they'll look decent.
If not, I'll trade them off locally here.

What do you guys think?

They WERE cheap.
:p

Good deal! Enjoying the MX5 to her fullest I see (alright)

This is an excellent place to start:

If you don't get any luck there, you can give www.discoveryparts.com (local atlanta shop, anything over $100 is free shipping last time I checked)

or www.extremesupply.com - I got my 1st autox helmet there when I was still in school, budget was the #1 concern lol. The HJC CS-5 was what I had. Great price, SNELL rated (which you need), and reasonably comfortable. I see them @ autoxes all the time.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Andrew. I will take a look. Best price I've so far is 130 bucks. Will see what they cost on those sites.

What is the difference between M2000 and M2005? What is needed for AutoX?

The only difference is that the M2005 will be legal for longer. Basically, every 5 years they re-certify. If I'm not mistaken, the oldest you can use for the SCCA now is M2000, and I believe those will only be good for another 2 years.

Thanks. Good to know.

I finally got around to upping the ante in the tire department on the CSP Miater. Using a 27lb combo of the new Hoosier 255/40/13's and 13x8.5 3-peice Panasports, the car took on a rather intimidating stance. The Hoosiers are quite different in terms of feedback and overall feel from the Kumho's that I've been used to running for the past 3 years. Grip is quite good with this setup. For the first time ever, I was able to fuel starve a Miata with a 1/4 tank of fuel on the skidpad, on the third revolution no less. However, the slip angle is very different to what I'm used to. With nationals coming up, I need to get a jump on the learning curve.

Furthermore, I removed the nearly 50 pound roll bar to yield a 2025 pound result. I still have the stock seats, radio (with 1 speaker), and catalytic coverter. There's still a bit of weight that needs to come off the car.

You should move your license plate. Air flow is super-restricted to the IC and radiator.

Kev..it's ziptied...it flips up when air hits it.
Yes...I even thought about the same thing you did about air flow.

Total hotness. I saw the MS body kit for the first time last week at the Solo Nationals. The car was absolutely beautiful. The NC should have come from the factory in that trim.

If it's the one in the pic, that's the appearance package, not the MS bodykit
