What have you done to your Miata today?

Welcome! You sound as excited as I was when I purchased my first Miata (yes, it's an affliction :) ). Andrew (Muff) pretty much summed things up. The only addition I have is when you are changing fluids, be sure to change the shifter turret oil as well. You'll have to remove your center console via 5 screws, 4 bolts for the upper shifter boot, and another 4 bolts for the actual shifter and boot. Remove the old oil with a turkey baster and refill with a few ounces. Shifting will be notably improved afterwards.

Again, welcome to the forum! :)

A few days ago, I finally got around to replacing the speedo cable which snapped 30 miles from Topeka while travelling to the SOLO nationals. It's pretty cool having a usable speedometer again. While I was there, I removed the air bag bulb and unplugged the airbag module (since the steering wheel is aftermarket).

Coming soon: 2002 BPZ3 with VVT controller for the CSP car ;)

I still have the beep beep beep from my airbag...lol.

I'll also have to try that shifter turret oil change also...because I have not done that yet. :)

Just unplug the blue airbag module. It takes 2 seconds.

Thanks, and yes i'm real excited. I have good news and bad news. I didnt bring her home with me this weekend but the good news i know right where she is, and shes not goin anywhere so ya. im going to pick it up probably thursday. Thanks for the tip on the turret oil. Definitely will do. Im assuming one could pick up said oil at a local autozone or such. But anyways, enough about me, how was everyones weekend?

Certainly. You'll need 75w90 gear oil in the tranny, diff, and turret. I use Mobile1 synthetic, but that's up to you.

spun bearings FTL...

my '99s motor now sounds like its pregnant with an evil robot thats desperately trying to get out of the block above 2500rpm.

got a new crate motor from mazda motorsports coming to go in it...

hoping to tear down the old motor and see how bad it is.... maybe future donor for and FM stroker kit... hmmm...

ouch... why not just pull the oil pan and see if you can get away w/ replacing the bearing?

Ouch. How'd that happen? Low oil level?

because someone else already paid for the new motor and associated bits... and then I get to play with the broken motor later, see just how bad it is, maybe do a complete rebuild, etc...

yea... haven't torn into the motor yet to find out exactly what happened, but i normally check my oil every week, since it had started to consume a little (about a quart every 2k miles)... but the night it started making the noise, i pulled over to a gas station because it sounded like a lifter knocking from inside the car, but then it took 2 quarts to even find oil on the dipstick... and when i fired it up with the hood up it was obviously not a lifter, ehe...

damn man, that really sucks! I kinda have to be careful w/ the Honduh because the F20c, apparently, to be able to rev to 11 (ok, 9, but you get the idea) and still be a reliable engine, has some looser tolerances and are known for sipping a bit of oil (rotary engine much? high revs, high power, low displacement, no torque, drinks oil LOL) so I'm with you on that. Weird that it happened. I'll tell you from experience, that rebuilding an engine as much fun as it is really frustrating at times the first time you do it. After you've bumped your nose a few times it's not terribly difficult :D

PURCHASED:
-Gaskets
I bought all new gaskets for my outbound inspection from Turkey...looking to have my mechanic break pull everything down and swap everything out in Jan, for a Feb ship out.
-HIDs
Because I need them. :p
-NGK G-Power Platinum spark plugs (going to clean up my wires because they are practically new...just needs a wipe down).

While everything is out...going to scrub everyting down, re-do the block, valve cover & engine bay with some better paint.

Do you have a leak somewhere? I replaced all of the gaskets 2 years ago when I had you motor apart.

Yep, I sure do (main seal I think). Also...to ship the car out of the country, there can be ZERO leaks, + I recently discovered some wet spots that need some attending to (could silicone it and call it a day)...but as a precaution just gonna have my guy pull everything, scrub/clean pressure wash all the gunk and replace everything. The shippers are ANAL about the bio/chem stuff in/out of here....remember that oil return line with the small puncture? The big one? Well...that's still wrapped up...lol...I replaced the smaller one...going to have him swap the big one out for a new one while he's got it all out. Yep...almost 2 years since you worked your magic. I'll be glad to be back in the US again though...I hate the roads and shipping stuff here is a royal PITA.

How many miles have you put on it? I'm happy she's still holding up with the abuse you've put it through :).

I'd have to check the speedo and look at the shipping docs from when it departed the US.

Well I finally made it happen. I brought that pretty little Miata home on friday. Haven't done much to it though. The powered widows wouldn't work so I cleaned the contacts (what the previous owner said I should do since it happened to him). Once I cleaned em they worked again. But then the next day I fired it up and tried to crack the windows and nothing again. Damn. Any suggestions? I also got it smogged, passed with flying colors. But anyways, this weekend is gonna be a busy one, for me anyway lol. Im going to change the oil, trans and diff (and turret, thanks Kevin). Also I'm hoping to find, by the end of the week, the plastic piece that goes around the stereo and ac vents and such as well as a new shift boot. Apparently the stereo was stolen out of it way back when and they broke the plastic. I called my local Mazda dealer and it's a $120 special order part, which I figured it would be. But is there a better place to get those items?

Also Andrew, turns out its a '90. I forgot to ask George (prev owner) if the timing belt was changed at 100k or not. But I'll find out. Hasnt had any problems though, he says.
