What have you done to your Miata today?

Used mine to cart around Miss Ohio Latina in the Puerto Rican parade in Cleveland last weekend.

trying to figure why the car wants to get hot again

Plugged in the 2nd radiator fan (which i thought was causing the car to get hot) but it still gets up to 108c (226F)

It's got fairly fresh coolant and water wetter, fresh water pump

We did not change the rad hoses though or the thermostat. Could that be the case?

only when it overheats, it'll bubble out, but no not that i've noticed

I'll check the rad once she's cooled down

If it's boiling out the overflow, it's definitely a stuck thermostat. That's what happened when mine failed. Honestly? You're in Florida. The car will never have trouble getting warm. Just run without one

T-stat could be the issue. Hell, in FL I'm surprised you actually have one.

Other option... check to make sure the fans are spinning the right direction.

So it took half a jug of coolant and my radiator cap is corroded around the top

Also, it's dripping coolant either from the lower rad hose or my eBay water pump is leaking

So you just have a symphony of problems, don't you? New rad cap and t-stat are a must. It may just be a gasket problem on the water pump, if it's the water pump at all. But really? e-bay water pump? They were like, <$30 when I bought one a couple years ago from Mazda...

I had no problem with the kit I put on the 90.

But lesson learned it it is the Wp.

Thermostat and rad hoses will be replaced hopefully this weekend.

Oh and after topping off the coolant, it stayed at temp, do I guess it was just low (from the leak)

Well crap.

It's not the lower rad hose, no leaks from that, it's coming from the water pump.

So it's either the pump itself or the gasket.

Either way, while I'm in there I'll put in a new oem

Well, there ya go. I would suggest cleaning up the radiator fill point with a wire brush if it was corroded, be sure to plug the radiator with a rag before you do it though. And definitely replace the cap and t-stat after they've seen such high temps.

It's the edges of the cap that are corroded, not the radiator fill point itself. So its getting replaced as well

and Muff, where'd you get an OEM water pump for $30? I'm finding them for $130

Yesterday i installed leds in the sunvisor mount to add more nite time interior lighting. Today i installed a new one piece glass window convertable top with new rainrail. That wasnt the funnest thing to install but i am sure i saved a pretty penny doing it myself

got a quote of $612 to have Treasure Coast Miata do a timing belt/water pump and all gaskets and seals with new OEM parts

$275 to $300 in labor. Waiting to hear from Jason at Montomery Mazda to hear what his parts costs

joy

This weekend I had everything bled and abs cycled and bled, the foot-off-pedal clutch squeak fixed, and got the shop owner drunk for his birthday.

Finally got around to calling Mazda Motorsports so I could order some stuff. Ordered some oil filters and a new CAS o-ring, oil has been leaking from the back of the valve cover for a couple weeks now.
