What have you done to your Miata today?

So I just bought some cheap Falkens to daily on (912's for the 16' SE wheels) and now I found a wheel that I want.. So pissed hahah.
Going to see how the 912's hold up at autocross and If they aren't up to my expectations I think I am going to have a set of wheels for Autocross/Track days/Meets. and the SE wheels to daily on. Probably going to get RT615K's, Star Specs, or RE-11's for the Konigs I found.

Also ordered some HID's last week or so, cant wait for those.
5K DDM slim's 35w

I'd get R1Rs or RS-3s over any of the tire choices you listed. (Probably RS-3s for Florida) Or wait until next year and see how the new version of the Star Spec stacks up.

I dont want like a super Race tire though lol. Just something cheaper, but still hooks nicely. I mean s***, all Ive had for this car is all seasons anyway. Even a Basic Summer tire would be a nice upgrade.

Well the 3 you listed are in the same category as the R1R and RS-3 they just aren't as good. :) It's not like you're going to get a tire that's going to last longer by choosing the ones you listed. If you're going to get one in that category you might as well get the best. Just sayin' ;)

If you want better life you'll have to step down to the Continental DW or Hankook V12.

Edit: Plus, I don't believe they fall into "super race tire" category until you shave them down to 4/32nds or less. :D

Reason I was leaning toward the RT615K is because Stephen said he has gotten like 20K+ out of his and he still has a good amount of life left... which I was pretty impressed over. and neither one of those tires come in a 205/50/15 or any other size I could really use (pretty sure they both start out in 16's.

So It would be more like DZ101's, or sDrives as a step down. Which is a pretty far step, hahah

Ah yeah I forgot the DWs don't come in 15's... Lots of people like the S-Drives though.

Get a set of DWs for daily on your 16's then have some super sticky max perf. tires on your new 15's for autocross/track. Problem solved! :D

Miatas are good on tires so you might be able to stretch any of the max performance offerings to 20k miles, I wouldn't count on it though. I had a set of crappy Sumitomo UHP tires that made it 30k which including tons of track and autocross. I just got some RE-11s and they only have a few thousand miles and maybe 6 autocrosses and they look brand new so time will tell I suppose.

Yeah. I have almost 20k on them right now. If I could find my damn lug key, I'd be able to get more on the rears, but those may have only a few k left on them. The fronts currently are pretty much half worn.

I've got RS3s and S.Drives... either one would be fine on the street, but the S.Drive will be a bummer on the track.

I would get the StarSpec as a track/street tire in Florida, it will handle rain/wet roads better than the RS3 will. I assume that you'll do some driving on the street to get to each event and events still run the rain. It's REALLY hard to beat the RS3 on dry pavement though, it can take a lot of heat without getting greasy. The StarSpecs handle heat very well too, but aren't quite as grippy. My endurance team has decided on StarSpecs as race tires, but we're limited to UTQG 200 or higher.

I didn't even consider rain as I rarely drive mine in the rain :D

I have s drives and I seriously need to upgrade that . They are definitely lacking during track use.
I am going to get 205/50/15 rs3s on 15x8 konig flatouts(12.4 lbs). For dedicated track use.
However since college loan payments suck it might be a while before I get these.

If they're going to be dedicated track use what about the Nitto NT-01 or the new Toyo RR? They R-compounds at the RS-3 price range.

Good luck with that, RS3 is only available in 225/45-15 for 15in wheel sizes AFAIK. But there's nothing wrong with 225s ;)

question for you guys:

I've been changing the settings on my MBC (Turbosmart) but I'm still hitting boost cut if I'm WOT in 4, 5 or 6. I only have intake, TBI, BOV and FM downpipe (with a cat). I've set the boost to 10 psi. I've heard of other people with my mods + catback and IC running 10 psi with no issues. Could it be that my MBC is not working properly? I've considered getting the AEM TRU-BOOST but don't feel like spending $300 if I'm not sure it will fix it. I'd also like to complete te exhaust and get the IC but as it is right now it would only be worse.

I don't want to have the turbo ported if I don't have to, at that point I might as well do the compressor wheel upgrade.

thoughts?

Sounds like boost creep... do you know what PSI you're hitting when boost cut kicks in?

If it's really creep and not a malfunctioning boost controller you'll need your turbo ported.

I saw a reduction in boost with my setup when I tweaked the waste gate actuator, but I didn't solve the problem until I ported the IWG, which wasn't very hard.

It slowly goes over 10 but definitively less than 12, I'll have to keep an eye on it next time. The last time it happened, I wasn't WOT since I was trying to avoid it...

Have you adjusted your MBC since temperatures have been cooling down? My MBC tends to run a little higher on boost in the cold. 1-2psi change could be a result of creep or controller fluctuations...

If it's creep you could adjust for 8-9 psi to stay out of boost cut as a stop-gap just to keep the car drivable.

Pablo, lemme get a ride in it sometime. I've had goofy issues like that before.

The car is drivable, I just can't go WOT in the higher gears. I'll turn down the boost a bit and see how it behaves, I was thinking towards the future as I expect to go back to HPDE next year and I don't want to drive the car like this on the track, so I was planning some mods to correct the issue and be safe while beating the crap out of it.
