What have you done to your Miata today?

Aww. Mahk will miss his baby. I surely miss mine.

I spent some time contemplating what to do about my car. I fear the exhaust is way too big for it and I'm losing potential power due to that. I need to find a way to get the exhaust gas velocity up without replacing the entire thing.

Can't tell if srs. I thought turbos loved minimal back pressure post-turbo because the turbo itself was already creating unavoidable back pressure pre-turbo... Isn't that the reason the ms3 gains like 60 torque with a new downpipe? Or am I completely misinformed?

A way to get gas velocity up is to wrap the stuff so that it keeps the heat in and flows faster, but you know that.

I'm srs. But there is the problem of too large an exhaust. The MS3 has a restrictive downpipe with a decent sized turbo. Meanwhile, I have a ******* huge exhaust with a tiny turbo. The flow isn't great enough to make full use of a 3" exhaust. Flyin' Miata, Corksport, Enthusa... they all make 2.5" exhausts for the MSM and make great gains from it. I believe that unless I'm using something larger than a T3, I will never need a 3" exhaust.

You realize there's only one solution.. You must build a 2.0 BP stroker, 13:1 compression, 150 octane jet fuel with a 250 shot to spool the T51 SPL to around 30+psi (at least for low boost) and you'll utilize your 3" exhaust then. Heck, it might not even be big enough.

While I'm at it, I'll take the extra money and reserve my burial plot and casket.

It matters greatly on NA cars nearly all the way out the back. But AFTER the turbo on a boosted car? You cannot go too big. Look at the crazy drag turbo cars... it's a 2ft pipe the exact size of the turbo outlet and it's just there to point the flames.

That being said, a nice equal-length tubular manifold (with external wastegate for good measure) can make things smoother and more efficient before the turbo- and you can definitely go too big in that case (ie never get to the powerband the header is tuned for).

I disagree. N/A or Boosted, maintaining exhaust velocity is pretty important. You'll want more pipe for a turbo than for an N/A car generally speaking, but it does depend on how much air you're moving just how big you want to go.

I made a radiator screen from some mesh that I had lying around. There was nothing protecting the radiator, so I thought it would be a good idea. It needs to be painted black, though. It kinda looks ricey being silver.

I also removed the plastic flap thingy from the underside of the hood behind the drivers side headlight and pushed the headlight cover down just enough to make a gap between it and the hood. Ghetto cold air intake, a la Spec Miata.

Waiting waiting waiting for coilovers to show up. Ordered in mid-September, will get here eventually. Put a big meaty sway bar on the wife's otherwise stock '93 for the last autocross and she said she noticed the difference. Made me happy that she's done this enough to be able to see that setup changes are being felt from behind the wheel so as we start throwing more fun parts at the car she can help with the tuning.

Still have to order intake/header/exhaust and spend the winter throwing those at the car. Then paint. Then tires. Not sure how a $1500 car can wind up costing so much.

nooo. :'(
