What have you done to your Mazda6 today?

Plasti dip would work perfectly!

Any chance you could post or send me close up pics of your bumper insert?

I really dont know the texture of it. Is it just "rubbery" paint? lol

I mean does it just look like smooth flat/satin black, but feels like rubber? Or does it have a pebbled texture to it?

Do I have to worry about how I spray it? Like, even spray pattern or does it matter?

It feels like plastic when its dry. I will try to get you a close up whenever I clean the car. Its smooth with a slight texture and is a semi gloss black. It sprays pretty thick so 3 good coats should do the trick. just search it on google. there are a lot of people that use this paint on bumpers/wheels/ etc..

Well, I dropped my brake fluid resavoir cap while topping off all the fluids. AutoZone didn't have a replacement for the Mazda6 or any Ford 3.0 Duratec. Off to the stealership tomorrow if I can't find it once I remove the battery.

Oh, and I installed my side skirts from the Auto Exe set. Now that just leaves the rear pieces from the set and the front grill. Until I see something else I like..... Come on KrGsMrNKusinagi with those pics lol!!....

im working on it.. Im off 3 days next week gonna be installing the stuff then. They should be up by next weekend.

Dang it I need those side skirts... then all I will have left to get is the rear wing but I dobt im gonna get that since i got the Roof spoiler

A leak in the rear axle is nothing to worry about? Hmm, ok!

It sounds like what I had. I was at a different shop for an oil change and they pointed out that the rear axle and PTO were leaking. I panicked, stressed, and worried about it, and made an appointment at an experienced dealer since I wanted them to do a custom alignment anyway (this one would do to your spec). I asked the tech about it and he said it wasn't leaking, just "weeping" I think, which is apparently normal and within spec, and Mazda corporate won't replace those parts under warranty.

Very clean, ZFZ!

I haven't done anything except drive her to work and home yesterday, I'm kind of enjoying taking the train in more these days and keeping the miles down. It also lets me read more, and I'm reading Alex Roy's (from Gumball 3000 fame) book, The Driver. It's actually pretty good, and an entertaining account of the Gumball as well as his personal reasons for entering and then taking the next step.

its a damn good book, thats what it is.

as for the 6, bought around 200 in bi-xenon projectors and new HID kits today.

Went to O'Reilly's and picked up a cx-7 cabin filter. And got some new wiper blades. Tommorrow, long overdue oil change switching to Shell T6 Rotella. And ordered new foglight bulb

WTF, how did that post while I was typing..... Anyway I forgot which direction the cabin filter went in. So I just put in the way the letters were right side up. So the airflow is going up into the dash. Which would make sense to me.

Do you think one can is enough or would I need more?

How did you prep your surface? Sand? Acetone?

How smooth (Perfect) does the surface need to be? Im just trying to see if its a simple easy project or if I need to do a lot of prep work.

Does the paint hide any imperfections?

Is removing the exhaust surrounds on the bumper a straight forward, simple process or is it a PITA?..... Anyone removed/replace them that knows?....

You could do it with them still on the car. No need to sand either. Just make sure the surface is clean. I used some wax remover and alcohol to clean mine. It will hide inperfections as well.

Just mask off the area. There isnt much over spray wth this stuff and its sprays pretty heavy. I would do a light coat first to get a good bond. Followed by 3 good coats. Wait about 4-5 minutes in between coats. Once you did the final coat pull the tape from the edges off immediately. This way it doesn't have time to dry and it doesn't peel off on the edges with the tape. Its pretty much dry within an hour or 2 afterwards. If you do it in the cold it may take longer to dry.

1 can should do it but it may take a little more. Home depot has them for 5 bucks a can.

Enjoy boys:

Phil Belnavis Some high powered cars perform just as well if not better w/an autotragic than a manual. I'm referring to supercars though, not your run of the mill rustang. Test drove the 8 speed Lexus. Yeah. Auto is best on that platform...

James Campbell booooo with manual u control on the shift when red lining or double shifting and more. Where auto ur like granny shifting waiting ur turn in line to move forward.

haha...srsly. Who double clutches a sports car these days? Now everything is pretty much computer controlled, not drive by wire like the old days.
I have a 6spd mazdaspeed6 and a 5spd turbo'd miata...I clutch kick the miata to get it sidew...ays...that's about it. I have a 6spd (auto) Mazda CX7 turbo as well...it fawking zoom-zoom's with the best of 'em.
I prefer a manual & I see where you're coming from...but your reasoning/explanation is flawed.See More

I called my Home Depot stores and they told me they no longer carry the spray can, only the liquid dip. :( But, I may go check a couple stores myself to make sure.

Ive found it at Lowes but its almost $9.00 with taX.... (eek2)

So, its OK for layers 1-2-3 to be taped off, but on layer 4 remove the tape immediately? The first 3 layers wont cause the paint to peel off?

The 7 day forecast is mid 60's to high 60's so temperature shouldnt be an issue.

Have it taped for all the coats. Just when your done go ahead and pull off the tape and not wait for it to dry. If not, once it dries and you peel the tape off, the paint will start to peel from the edges with it. This stuff can be taken off like you would peel of a vinyl wrap so its not really permanent like if you were to use a spray paint.

I understand what your saying, but was just asking that allowing the other 3 coats to dry wouldnt make it peel?

What would you say the MAX time I should wait between coats to avoid the paint sticking to the tape and peeling?

Looks good. Though, next time, mind the shadows when you set up your shot.

Welp, never did find my brake/clutch fluid resavoir cap, got one from the dealer yesterday for $11.28 and a cabin air filter for $25.60.

EDIT: Found it! Gotta cancel my part order. Gave the 6 a nice bath after.

Thing thing about this is if you wait too long and go to pull off the tape you used to mask off there is a potential of since it being hardened it will peel off with the tape.

Just wait 5 minutes between coats and you will be fine.

Yeah I know.

I was just snapping a couple quick pics. It was either take it as is or wait till the next day. So I just went with it.

When I have a "Photo Shoot" I will worry about shadows, placement, scenery positioning etc.

Thanks though.
