What have you done to your Mazda6 today?

toyed with my injector latency a bit over the weekend. dialed in my meth tune a bit more. just about got it where i want it.

also, ran 15psi for a bit, lol. whoa nelly. but not locked in at 12psi. good weekend for the 6.

next is oil change and oil cooler install, then intercooler spray bar

Got my SRI installed and drove her for the first time sense Wednesday. =]

Must be nice... I ordered my SRI a month ago... still don't know when it'll be sent. I was told end of the month (May) but clearly they were wrong. I need some woooosh pssthh

in other news, I ran over the remains of an exploded woodchuck or something... boy it reeks. I hope it just stays in the wheel well and doesn't stay smelling that awful... it's a rancid stench.

Where the hell did you order it from?!

That sucks! If it got on your exhaust piping it's gonna smell really nice all heated up. =P

Get some soap and clean that wheel well haha.

Id recommend sprying it off at the carwash before it soaks in too deep. It'll sstay for a while. The smell that is unless u try and clean it off before it sets in

Finished up the car late last night. Got up this morning and tried to attempt fixing an exhaust rattle. Overall the car drives great!! I like this setup much better than the draw through system. My LTFT's are way off and need to be adjusted. +13% at idle and around +5% at crusing speeds. AFR at idle is between 14.4-14.8. At WOT it is between 11.3-11.6. I think one I get these fuel trims in check it will be more stable. The car feels a lot smoother. The HKS bov sounds insane. Puts a mile on my face everytime I shift. This owns the stock bpv and forge by far!!! No more of the surge like shifts I was getting on part throttle shifts from the forge. The HKS works flawlessly no matter what boost you shift in. Or no boost. I had the V1 HKS a long time ago and hated the flutter and surge I was getting from it. This one is like night and day. Got ithis new one off ebay for 160 bucks.

One thing I do notice with the battery in the trunk is the car takes slightly longer to crank. But no issues with it starting.

Haha, finally got her done huh bro. Good s*** bro. Since u disconnected the battery I would give the car a day or two of normal driving just so it can get a lil better learning of what's going on. Your fuel trims may wind up being. Closer to zero than they are now. Or of course further. But yea I'm happy you are loving the new setup bro. Enjoy it.

Also, what size(gauge) cable are you running from the trunk for the battery? Id recomend running 0/1 gauge if you aren't already. It make help that weaker cranking siince it will have less voltage drop with the bigger cable.

Also, I recommend running a ground (4ga is fine) from the battery straight back to the front as well. The 6 sometimes has ground troubles if its only grounding in the rear from the battery.

Keep me posted on how u feel about the new setup. Again, glad u like it so far. Win win bro.

Jeez, erryone had a productive weekend! All i did was clean my car (my usual OCD cleaning routine) and replace my bent OEM wheel with a used OEM wheel that looks in better condition than all the other 3, haha! Got it mounted, balanced, alignment and camber adjusted back for street... she's driving tru again.

@boost2dms6 - grats on the new grill, looks slick!!

@BoostedSpd6 - pics of new tail-light project outcome? btw, your engine tuck & FMIC tube rerouting is gonna be SICK! i cant wait.

@Qwik6 - dyamn man, grats on the blow-throw project, looks like it was a fun build!! gotta love more crispy throttle response, lets you feel more like throttle by cable, instead of electronic throttle. lol...

@The Great NY - woh, no problems running 15 PSi ?? i guess running meth really helps a lot! im really curious about that FMIC spray bar! i know some people who rerouted their window washer lines to spray their intercooler, curious how much it helps...

The bent wheel, looks minor but the symptoms were pretty bad...

Oh no! That doesn't look good.

Pics of teh trunk.

Here you go. :) I should have painted the metal in the trunk black so that white sqaure doesnt stand out so bad. But I wasn't going to mount fuses to the carpet. Wanted something that I wouldn't have to move once I put it on.

None at the time. The motor felt very good at 15psi. Didn't seem stressed at all. I really was only running that high a boost so I could throw a lil tuning in that range in case of an overboost. I always tune my cars 3-5psi higher than what it'll being running in the event of an spike or creep creep occuring. The car won't swing lean it'l be rich....around an 11.2afr is what I set it for around about 15psi. Just a lil extra saftety in case an overboost happens. That way it won't immediately cause damage from a lean condition.

Iirc....I ran 15psi for about 5-6 wot pulls to bang the tune in. And then lock the boost back in at 12psi

Meth definately help keep deto away and the water helps the combustion temps. So definaately makes it safer for higher boost. Will I be runnin 15psi all the time? Nah...probably not on the stock bottom end. But now I know the motor can take excursions there and hold true.

The intercooler spraying...well there are different types....well different materials u can use to spray the intercooler.

1. Water(stock sti setup)
2. NO2
3. CO2

Water is the least effective mode of intercooler spraying. As its just cooling the ic a bit. NO2 and CO2 are the best. As they legitmately FREEZE the intercoooler. I will be using CO2. As its more readily availible than NO2. Both freeze the intercooler pretty much.

IC spraying is very effective in hotter months. Freezing the IC in 90 degree weather is almost like driving your car in the winter time. For comparison. Drops temps a lot. Water on the other hand will cool way less since its always gonna be at ambient temp unless ur icing it.

aha, good idea about tuning for a bit higher boost.

Aye, i figured water spray wouldnt help the IC all that much.
didnt know about the other materials used...
seems this would be a GREAT idea for a TMIC too, since we get a bit more heatsoak than you FMIC kids.

i think im gonna be adding this to the short-list after a bit of research.
looks like the pressurized Co2 spray kits are quite a bit more expensive than the water spray kits.

awesome man.. now i can put a number into my adding machine and tack on another $600 to my build.. wooohoooo!!! lol.. seriously im into this build at around 11k.. on top of the 9.5k ive spent on the car already, plus its original cost 28.7 k. or something like that.. 50k bill.. kinda makes me (sick) but :D

im interested to see how the new setup looks and interested to see what list of parts ill need.. to add on to my other list..

edit: so just saw your pics.. basically all your doing is putting the MAF where the BOV pipe was with the cx kit and the new BOV position is on the hot side?? is that a good thing?? correct me if im wrong, new intake looks sweet.. but any chance you can make it end up kinda like mine is.. or is the cold pipe in the way..

50k Build including car? geee Thats basically what mine cost new lol Financed 39k, after paying 5k down and the company i worked for had whats called a X-Plan which gave me the car for $1500 above cost. I feel sad now :( lol

what were the symptoms you had? vibes, pulling? just curious.

originally the bent wheel was on the front passenger side.
It shook the steering wheel something fierce, and my whole alignment was wack, pulling to the right. So fighting heavy vibes & pull to the right got tiring!

1 day after track, i got it remounted to the rear passenger side until i could get that new OEM wheel.
So THEN instead of shacking in the steering wheel, i had shakes on the whole rear end of the car!
made weird vibe sounds on the freeway, tralk about driving paranoid!

the risk i was worried about was screwing up the tire, or the wheel shimmying the lugs loose.
Thankfully nothing bad occured after the track... *phew*

yea it'll help. just remember to use it while staging so you dont suck a lot up during wot.

the water kit dont use as much pressure. but the co2 kits are basically nitrous kits, but use co2 instead. compressed gas system.

for someone who doesnt drag, but tracks... you still recommend it?

since i stay hot much longer than drag runs, is there a way to have it computer controlled and spray at certain times/temperatures?

Replaced both foglights today...Never want to do that passenger side again...I am one click away from ordering the Corksport Power series intake system. TIP and SRI together..

:) I need to run it for longer than a day to let everyone know. :) But so far so good. Its running great! 9 minutes away from getting in it and going home. :D
