What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

not quite, but only around an inch tonight. we have been lucky so far, usually we have snow on the ground by mid november.

and the 5 is a great road tripper as well. i also agree on the bass problem, but the wife wont let me mess with her car like that.

True....I added an 8" competition Kicker woofer ( 8" and competition sound funny together ) with an amp and it's perfect with the factory set up. Just right!

Yeah, I've got a Kenwood amp and 8" sub from an MSP in the MPV. I'll be pulling them out before I sell it, so I may try to come up with some sort of solution for putting them in the 5. I'm liking the idea of building a custom deck under the carpet, replacing the tray on top of the spare. If I'm real creative, and if I take the time to learn to do fiberglass, I could use the space inside the spare for the sub. I Don't know, that may be waaay more than I want to take on. I know that my wife will require that she never has to see it, and that it never inconveniences her. Those were her requirements for the setup in the MPV!

Got the snows on and installed DVD headrests for the kids!

I see lots of room where the tools are above the spare. if I was so inclined, that's where I'd have an amp, and the spare well for the sub.

but the wife and 3 kids don't appreciate the need for it :)

So, yesterday, I got the recall work done. Also, i got my winter wheels and tires put on.

Took about an hour and 45 minutes.

Took the car back home, and wow. what a difference. the car was sooooooo quiet. does anybody have that high pitch whine that gets louder when you turn the wheel? the power steering whine? well, it is gone now. new pump, lines, and flushed fluid. soooo much better. also, the new tires are much quieter as well. the stock tires are so bad that snow tires are quieter.

So yeah. all set for winter now. good thing, it snowed that day (only 1 inch), but tomorrow we are suppose to get 4-6.

Makes the brakes seem bigger. not a lot of room with 16'' wheels.

What was the recall you had done? Power steering? I assumed when you said you were going in for a recall, that you were talking about the new fuel pump one.

Super sports car sound

Somebody gave me one of those thingy that you plug in to the cigarette lighter.
Then you tune it to a vacant FM frequency.. Adjust your audio. Start the car,
rev it to 3000rpm and let go.

Result: The unit will calibrate itself and produces a 'hotrod' sound out of your
car radio's speaker... lol. Step on the gas and it sounds like you are in a race track
in a big sports car, ready to take off. More of a conversation piece for friends.

street legal. but maybe outlawed by the wife.

I made a short video. I have only the stock soundsystem.
Should be a blast for those with big speakers in the rear.

I googled for it and it appears many are wondering
if it works. So here is the video.

yup, the power steering recall. my 5 is an 08, so it is out of the new fuel pump range.

Road Trip! Nothing super-huge, just over the river and through the woods to my Grandfather's house for Christmas with the family.

Chantilly to Harrisonburg, VA. Couple hours each way. The 5 was flawless on the highway, with the possible exception of the road noise. I may invest in some dynamat (or similar product) for inside the doors or under the carpets. I never wanted to do it with the P5, as adding weight like that to a car I was going to autocross just seemed counter-productive, but for the 5, there's very little downside I can see, other than an incremental loss of fuel-efficiency from carrying the extra weight.

Well, I guess I can look forward to replacing those, but since it's a brand-new 5, it's not going to be any time soon!

i added soundproofing to the p5. mostly in the hatch and front doors. id say it added maybe 20lbs. you could easily offset that weight with losing some off the driver. (not saying you are fat or anything)

New wiper blades. Why did my stock ones suck sooo badly that I felt a need to replace them at less than 1,500 miles?

not me, but someone did something for me. nice new scrape on the rear bumper. wife didnt even know. had to have happened recently since there is no salt over it.

pics sometime later.
