what gauges should I get

I'm looking at eather defi or autometer( or like) gauges, I really want to get a little more info than a tach and spedo. I was thinking of getting... a/f, oil press, and volts, plus a boost gauge when I get some snail power.

what do you guys think?

I think you'd be better off sving your cash untill you actually have something to monitor. I'm guessing you're pretty much stock so there's nothing really to check on.

why a volt meter?????

Exactly. You can go buy a Escort Passport 8500 Radar Detector, and it has a built in Volt meter, so when it's not detecting the popo's, it is displaying your voltage. A sweet feature if you ask me!

Yeah, save for something to montor first.

I just got my Autometer EGT gauge in last night. It actually looks good. The Defi's look hot, but I hear they're not accurate.

I accually heard that Delfi makes some of the most accurate gauges?

And Omri but you cant get those here anymore. Unless you run to Alamo and buy what they still have. The Greddy TT has one to in it, a volt meter that is.

I love my passport. Getting the Laser shifter pretty soon. A guy Josh (black cobb tuned REX) has it and he got hit at 90 on bowen and no ticket not even pulled over. Badass in my opinion (damn i have a real problem not staying on topic:D )

Well I would say go for it. all cars stock or not can benefit from being monitored. IMO. As far as a volt meter, I plan on adding one once my system goes in. I have had probelsm before in other cars where a voltmeter would have come in handy. Also the AF ratio because it just looks cool ok! no seriously once you have a few mods like intake and exhaust your mixtures are going to change because the car is computer controlled and the computer will compensate a certain amount for mods that you make. Next I would say would be a water temp and a oil pressure. 2 things that can go wrong with any car no matter wether stock or modified. Oh well just my opinion but I am kind of anal about things like this and would like as much info as possible about my car while I am driving it.

Oh and if you go with autometer don't foget to get one of their clocks. Gotta know what time it is you know. J/K BTW

I completely agree with you!

:D

Id really like to see a complete fully functional gage display pack that clearly and accurately shows the normal and abnormal state of things with regards to: engine temperature, voltage/battery and oil pressure either as an analog or else some kind of digital indicator that replaces the swing of the needle- maybe some kind of horizontal bar graph/digital readout screen!

I've had many past experiences where they've all come in handy!

It's true that when the car is driving, the alternator is doing all of the electrical supply work to the car's engine, but it's also recharging the battery - and if there are some weak or bad cells (or something is wrong with the car's alternator) a good "voltage" gage will register the fact that something is wrong! Plus, as long as the key is in and turned on with NO motor running a good gage will also show the current state of your battery too - alerting you to the fact that there is trouble. (last year on my wife's 2 year old Passat the idiot battery light never warned us that her battery was going bad, until it was to late and the car wouldn't start)

Maybe it's cause I'm older than most here, but I remember having and using good accurate display gages on all of my other cars, until now!

And yes, it's true that I may not have looked at them most of the time, but when you drive the same car a lot - you can get a feeling when something isn't quite right ... so having those gages on my car will quickly help to pinpoint the possible trouble.

Now I'm only a guy who grew up in Detroit (with a college degree in art and advertising- nothing real smart ;) ) but I learned that when I did notice that the gages where showing out side the normal limits - I better do something to correct my problem quickly. Having just a light come on is usually always to late for simple repairs.

Thanks for all the leads and recommendations on all of the aftermarket gages!

Now, if I plan on keeping my MP5 and don't trade-up for a RX-8 in a few years ... I know what I'll be buying!

:D

Hell yeah! I feel ya on this. I have had my Passport for almost a year and a half, and it works great! I guess I will have to get that laser shifter now if it works that good. What is the price for the one you speak of?
