Bought my first car ( Premium Plus edition ) after searching online and i am noob about cars. been comparing different brands and i thought automatic is automatic. boy.. i was wrong.. i have never hear about CVTs transmission. I have never went to dealers for test drive any of the cars or model.. haha. just watching videos reviews in Youtube.
It really helps to see the interiors of the cars without talking to the dealers in person.
I use mostly ChapGPT to help me making comparison, pricing and using the right words to email to dealers...Telling me what need to check etc. any hidden pricing etc. squeezing the pricing down $3500 below MSRP.
I would say emailing can help you to decide properly as facing a dealer will make you make unnecessary mistakes.

But personally, I think you can do better. With the higher MSRP, you're in the higher trim levels for the CX-5. I got $2800 off before the $2000 customer cash on my 2025 Select trim which has less margin. The $750 owner loyalty and $2500 customer cash are discounts coming from Mazda and should not be factored into the discount you're negotiating with the dealer.

Wow. That is quite a discount you negotiated! Yes, I’m looking at the premium plus trim. I’m shopping two different dealerships for pricing. The other will get back to me on Monday. So I should be negotiating the dealer discount and ignore the cash back and loyalty because they are pretty much a given?
Yes. You're focusing on the dealer discount. The other incentives are coming from Mazda where you'll get them regardless of what you negotiate with the dealer. The incentives are also not paid by the dealer so it doesn't affect their bottom line.
Since you're talking to two dealerships, you can use this as leverage in getting the best discount. Some cross shop more dealers. I didn't do this for various reasons and I wasn't in a situation where I was voluntarily buying this car. I was happy with my previous car and wasn't even remotely thinking about getting anything new to replace it. I was forced into it because that car was rear ended and the at fault insurance company totaled the car. So I needed a daily driver pretty quick. Technically I could have driven one of the other vehicles I have but one is my garage queen. The other is a big F150 with an extended bed which isn't practical as a daily driver.
So I got the discount I did working with one dealership. Took some doing but I got a deal I was ok with.

Sorry to hear you're in the same situation as I was.
One thing you can use to help guide you as to what your dealer discount target should be is to get what the invoice pricing of the car in question with the options. For me, invoice pricing is the floor of where the discount should start; especially with the 2026 models hitting the showroom floors around the corner.

As @zx10guy has shared, this isn't a great discount. At a minimum you should be getting 5% off MSRP, not including rebates. Your doc fee is reasonable at $299, so this helps a little bit compared to some high doc markets. May I ask what state you are in? Are you including the rebates/customer cash from Mazda in that 15% discount figure?
Yes, $2500. Then dealer came down $2600. Msrp $32200. $27100 negotiated price, $29.5k otd.

I’ll be looking at a premium plus at one dealership this afternoon and another at a different dealership tomorrow. These discounts I’m seeing are giving me an idea as to what to ask for as far as pricing. Looks like 8 percent off MSRP should be the goal, before stacking the loyalty and cash back. Thanks everyone!

So the test drive is done. The 2025 definitely feels more refined than my 2017, but I sure do miss that car.
