What did you pay for your CX-5?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. The director's call really did smooth over what I thought was kind of a rough initial experience and he said he felt we could make a deal. Instead of starting over somewhere else I decided to go back. With no back and forth he clearly presented what I thought was a fair deal. Essentially $2000 off and what I thought was fair for my car. It was actually to the dollar what I thought I could be happy with going in. There were probably a couple hundred dollars that could have been had maybe by going to another dealership but I was ready to be done. I think the issue with the first day was I got handed over to another salesman to negotiate as my salesman had something going on and maybe this other salesguy didn't have an interest in making it work. Anyway after that everything went well. No junk fees, no hard sale on stuff in financing. I'm happy.

Not a great pic but...

Hi! nice car Algernon6. I'm a long time lurker here. I have waited since dec last year to get the new cx5. And have been debating for months between the new cx5 and crv ex. I am planning to buy a similar color machine gray 2017 Cx5 FWD touring with iactivsense today for ~$25,250 plus TTL. Was planning to get a white snow color but they don't have it in stock. I wonder if I should wait till 4th of july sales to get a better discount?

I didn't get any extras with my deal for the touring but do you guys think that I should still push them for a splash guard or remote start with this low price or am I pushing it. They did offer to me to pay for these at cost price... I probably wont fuss with the remote start but for those of you who bought a cx5 before would the splash guard be worth it? (i saw some pic online and it looks different)

Thanks.

They already added the 0.9% a few days ago -- my bet is that is all there is going to be from Mazda USA but I could be wrong. I figured the dealer might add something but that all seems arbitrary to me if they are already dealing.

I was told there isn't two-grand gross in msrp. If you're getting a big discount it's coming from somewhere else.

My deal is messy because of the trade, it's hard to know where the money was. Mine they discounted the CX-5 by 1k and gave me roughly 1k more than kbb for my car. I still believe it was mostly discounting their car but I'm not an expert at valuing mine. It's not really a valid comparison point to use though.

Still others seem to have clean / no trade deals with 2k savings. They treated me like I was insane the first day for thinking 2k was possible off their car. "why should we give you kbb for your car and not get MSRP for ours?" I think it is probably all just a game to confuse some into taking the bait. And in my case some salesman vs. salesman power play when my guy had to step away and they "helped him out" by making me walk out pissed off.

I've been looking at a CX-5 Touring with the preferred package and received first time quotes of $2200.00 off MSRP, i still think there is room here for a better price. MSRP is just some hypothetical number the Mfg. comes up with in my opinion. Just my two cents.

BC, Canada.

2017 GT + Tech -- Machine Grey MSRP (bleh)
M011 gunmetal 19" wheels $1100
Nav cred ($450)
Accessories credit ($250) Basically agreed to trailer hitch @ half price when they get them in
Front and rear floormats included (not all weather ones)
Cargo matt included
Wheel locks included
Trade-in ($15,000)

I tried various dealers on the west coast here and no one would budge from MSRP on the GT + Tech. I waited a couple months and GT + Tech inventory didn't improve -- they're still getting sold before they're even off the boat.
I could have saved some off MSRP if I was willing to forego the Tech package or go with the Touring model, but I was set on the Tech package.

My local dealer made it up to me by offering me a great price on my trade. ~2500 more than 2 other dealers were offered me, but this was mainly due to having a connection with the manager here. So I owe him a beer :)

Overall I'm happy with the deal. The supply/demand situation here put me in a tough spot for the vehicle I wanted. Sure I could have waited 6mos or a year even, and then perhaps see some wiggle room on price. But realistically it likely wouldn't have been that much... and by then my trade-in would have had over 100,000km on it. Most certainly wouldn't be getting $15K for it.

Declined all of the paint/leather/etc. protection. I'll handle that all myself. Also declined extended warranty.

Also, this vehicle is GREAT! :D

I agree it is to some degree but I just went with my daughter a few weeks ago to purchase a CX-5 Touring, FWD, Black, no extras and paid $24,525.00 plus tax and doc fees, so I'm thinking that price plus the $780.00 for the preferred package would be a deal. She had contacted a few local dealers who were willing to even beat her price but she wanted to stay local for service. The main issue is the same dealer doesn't have what I want in stock just a lot of Touring's and GT's right now.

I know some others here have had a good experience at Town North Mazda in Richardson (Dallas) but it didn't go well for me this afternoon.

They wanted full MSRP for their GT with Premium and valued my car $1000 less than KBB. Negotiated some but they acted like I was unreasonable for thinking I should be able to do better than MSRP for their car and KBB for mine. Admittedly my number in response to their starting number was not going to be achievable but their starting number was equally ridiculous. "No one is selling this car for $2000 off". Trying to keep it friendly as I was leaving I said you have my number if you have a sale or something and he said they wouldn't be calling me. Ok then...

Was thinking about trying another dealership but I picked Town North as that is where I had planned to get the car serviced. Now wondering if maybe I should look at something other than a Mazda.

[This got better and I did buy there, updated post: https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123811693-Current-selling-price-for-CX-5&p=6526451&viewfull=1#post6526451]
Actually based on my experience the oldest Town North Mazda is still a better Mazda dealer overall in DFW area. They're not perfect and they'll play games like all others do as their goal, like others, is trying to make more money whenever possible. They're small and private owned and running the business in the good old fashioned way. You'll find the turn-over rate of salesmen is pretty low and most of them are there for several years. They may not offer the best new car price initially but if you gathered enough email offers from other Mazda dealers in the area, they'll match it. You just have to play some games too at our position. As you've found out that in the end your purchasing price is decent with no hassles - $2,000 off from MSRP and KBB price for the trade-in.

I also believe finding the right person to negotiate is important. Talk to sales manager Alex Tsvang directly if possible as he is the one making final decision on purchasing price. My salesman Richard Blye has been providing excellent service even today - 2 years 3 months later after our purchase. And Will the Internet guy usually gives you a good price via email. If you mention Mazdas247 or member's name, Alex will give you a good price as he has promised me many times each time I was there (who knows but won't hurt to bring it up). :)

Since you said you plan to build good relationship with your purchasing Mazda dealer, I believe Town North Mazda is a good dealer for your purpose too. Always deal with service advisor Victor Vernal who is nice and knowledgeable, and he definitely doesn't play games. Yeah they do have Mazda Moly 0W-20 oil in stock for oil change; make sure to mention it for $10 extra. And mention Mazdas247 should help too.

Finally, congrats and make sure to turn on your oil life monitor by setting up your "Oil Change" maintenance schedule to "Flexible", and plan to change the factory oil at 5,000 miles.

Thanks for the reply yrwei52. Richard was my salesman and we got along great. I had actually been in a year earlier looking at the 2016 but wasn't quite sure. We didn't get serious, I just did a test drive but when I came back I asked for him -- both times he was great at answering questions, no pressure, etc.. Then the other guys got involved and it went to crap (I personally think they had no interest in Richard getting the sale), but Alex was the one who called and made it right. He was straightforward and not shady at all. I didn't get an amazing deal, but I got a fair deal, and I think if it hadn't been for that hand-off it would have been painless. I was dead set on never going back after that first day but Alex was good at his job.

And all the talk from the other salesmen about having to wholesale my car? It's already listed on their website and they didn't even wash it first :). It was pretty clean to begin with though.

I appreciate all the help here. Otherwise I think it is too easy to fall into the sales BS that can happen anywhere. I never mentioned Mazdas247 while there though did mention I had been researching on the internet. Actually when I got a call that first night (an hour after posting my initial experience), I was like crap they are going to threaten to sue me or something :). I don't think they follow it that closely thankfully.

Also thanks for the service tips -- I will use that information.

You described Alex at Town North Mazda correctly, "he was straightforward and not shady at all". He's a rare breed in his position nowadays in this industry to me. Actually most employees in this dealer are great and I have nothing but good experience with them. Alex gave us, wife and I, an easy way to special order our CX-5 as I wanted a hard-to-find AWD in our area and very specific to color and options. He tried to process the paper work immediately to qualify the President's Day $500 cash back incensive. He may not give the best price in our area, but he usually will match the lowest price by others. When Texas DOT screwed up the name on the title, one of the clerk at the dealership paid the fee for us to re-apply a replacement title. Although I DIY for maintenance, but when I had hail damage and needed reference of good PDR and windshield shops, Alex and Victor didn't hesitate to give names for the services they'd use and those shops are great!

Enjoy the new ride and keep up the good work on maintenance! :)

And what was the sale price? Not the out the door. I literally cannot tell you if it's a good deal based on OTD only. (scratch)
