What car did you trade in for your CX-5?

Didn't really trade, as I still have the old car, it's just dead..

Fully loaded 2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan

Reasons:
- well the G needs a motor swap now...
- wanted to be higher off the ground
- fuel economy seemed great for a crossover
- I've always loved Japanese cars
- especially Mazda's
- was eyeing the 2014/2015 Mazda 3 hatchbacks for trunk space, but wanted to be higher off the ground
- needed trunk space and folding seats, I'm a mobile pc tech and mobile dj, I carry a lot with me at all times
- got a great deal on price

Did engine in G get low on oil? Not uncommon for the DE motor's oil consumption issues.

Sounds like the cx-5 fit perfectly for your needs with loading gear in and out of higher trunk. Being in Tempe, I'm sure you like its driving dynamics in traffic. Not too shabby for an suv/cuv huh?

2007 Mazda6, tweaked a bit...

is that the v6? there is tuning newly available for that engine now.

no that is the 2.3, had a bunch of Sure Motorsports parts on it, BC Coilovers, custom nose, Speed6 spoiler, speed3 wheels...
Loved that car, It was a blast to drive on tight turns, the BCs were awesome... Just got too old to get in and out of it tho :)

They have that stuff for the bx-5 too. I have a set of bc coils waiting to install myself..kinda waiting on hardrace to release a camber arm, but I may just install it anyways.

I did not trade it in. But my main car for the last 25 years is a 1990 Mazda 626. I used all mazda dealer maintenance parts whenever possible. Like air and oil filters, and brake pads. It has 350,000 miles on original engine (no rebuild ) and transmission (replaced clutch once at 250,000 miles ). and still runs great and has never failed an state emission test. I just drove the 626 from Portland, Oregon to Houston Texas, and it used about a pint of oil the entire trip.
I will take great care in the CX-5. So far its great.

2011 Kia Sportage LX

114K miles of trouble free goodness. Good car for the money, lots of standard features. CX5 handles better and has a smarter engine, about 5mpg better too.

Why?
Can you compare them for us? Likes/dislikes?
I am ESPECIALLY interested in freeway noise/resonance, as I view the CX-5 as louder than it should be, but it's also my first CUV, too.

Why? Because I replace both of my vehicles every five years before/around the the time the powertrain warranty expires. Yeah, I know.....my dealer calls me "Mr Depreciation", but I love having new cars and I guess I'm addicted to that wonderful new car aroma. My 2011 OB was 4th generation, 2015 - are the fifth generation.

Likes -
- A bit more cargo room than the CX-5
- Soft compliant ride - I used this OB as my highway cruiser/trip vehicle
- CVT not anywhere near as bad or noisy as the purists describe, consistently got 30 mpg on each trip I took, which is excellent for an AWD vehicle this size
- Amongst the lowest depreciation values of any vehicle
- Proven AWD system prolly the most dependable on the market
- Cabin fairly quiet and better insulated from road noise than CX-5
- Easy access for DIY (oil changes, etc)
- Reliability was excellent, no problems in 5 years

Dislikes -
- Vague, mushy steering, handling not even close to CX-5
- Not as peppy as the CX-5, (4 cyl) has 10 less HP and 10 less ft lb torque than CX-5
- Interior not as refined at least generation 4 wasn't
- Harmonic resonance problem early on in Gen 4 (slight steering wheel vibration at 65-75 mph) solved with TSB, now non-existent
- More expensive than the CX-5

Keep in mind the new OB's have improvements in the suspension (a little stiffer ride) and upgraded interiors. Their infotainement systems have been a joke thus far.

Overall, a great vehicle for my purposes and I'd get another one in a heartbeat. In fact, I ordered a 2016 OB, but then a day later, visited my local Mazda dealer and they made me a much better deal that I couldn't refuse on a 2016 GT. Canceled my OB order. This is my first Mazda, and I'm not entirely familiar with it yet (just had it a week) but the new CX-5 is growing on me already, hope it serves me as well as the five Subarus I've owned previously........we'll see once I take my first long road trip.

Bought a CX-5 Grand Touring after my 2006 Nissan Xterra slid into another car in the pouring rain and insurance later totaled it (sad1) Was a great car and had served me well with no issues but decided to get something smaller and with better gas mileage.

So you traded off the GLA for the CX-5?? It was one of the other vehicles I was going to take a look at before I went and drove the CX-5.
