Well....I ****** up

Just a note about insurance and totalling: My sister got T-boned in her 2001 Tacoma. Totally the other person's fault. I called my Allstate agent to ask about the criteria behind 'totalling' a vehicle. 70 - 75% USED to be the guideline, but anymore....insurance companies do whichever is cheaper. My sister's truck Bluebooked at $7400. The original estimate was around $5000, and they began repairs. After a couple of days, they found that the rear axle was bent, which sent the total repair to around $7000. Still not totalled. It's fixed and back on the road.

probably because they already started spending the money to fix it.

when i wrecked my old mz3 the estimate put it around the crucial yea or nay point of "totalling." and since it was close to that thin line of i think 70%, they decided to total it because there "could have been more things wrong" than the initial estimate said there was. so why risk it

in your sister's case they just happened to not see the axle in time of the original estimate, or else they probalby would have totalled it

What happens if the insurance company totals the car and you have aftermarket parts you'd like to get off of it?

If you're in tight with your insurance agent you can usually have first dibs at buying it back under salvage conditions.

car was not totalled. The estimate came in at a little over $7200. No frame damage. Crash support took all of the damage and it wasn't all that bad down the rails. The total loss limit of the car was 12,900. Car at the time was worth a little over 15k.

And since I know the body shop well, aka I used to work there, I forsee an AutoExe front bumper, Fiber Images hood, and a Garrett GT30 in my future.

Good for you & good to see an 07 stayin' alive. talk about turning s*** into shinola...play the lottery! (cheerbanana)

you are able to remove part that you want to. I had a 97 civic that was stolen and totaled and i was able to go to the wrecking yard it was at and remove my stereo and aftermarket accesories....tach, intake and so forth....

Glad to hear that it wasn't a total loss......get her back up and running and back on the street!!!!!

it's good to know that things will work out for you and no one was hurt... well, except for my feelings after seeing an ms3 broken like that... :)
