well, I think my car's totalled

2002 Protege5
While I was delivering subs a few hours ago, I rear-ended a Cadillac that had just rear-ended a Neon.
Behind me was an FJ Cruiser with an obnoxiously large brush guard, whose driver stopped about 12" short of my car. Unfortunately, a moment later, he was rear-ended by a TSX, pushing his brush guard through my rear windshield and crushing my hatch.
The TSX was then rear-ended by a Wrangler, pushing it up under the FJ.
My car is mangled, but still starts/moves. Nothing leaking, but it's probably totalled. I'm very disappointed, considering the fact that I've grown to love my P5, not to mention the fact that I have hundreds of dollars worth of parts in transit to me right now. I limped it home, and the package containing my Goodridge brake lines was sitting on my front porch. Fail.

Another protege5 in the junk yard. :( Hope ya didn't get to hurt. Consider parting it out before ya junk it.

what started this chain reaction?

Curious as to this as well (blind corner, fog, ice, etc) but it's 99% of the time following too close and/or driving too fast for conditions.

Your P5 is replaceable, but you're not so it's good you're not hurt. How's the roof and quarter panels? even if the insurance totals it, you can haggle a buyback price with compensation and possibly keep it on the road or part it out.

Daaaaaamn, sounds like quite the crash. Glad to hear you're ok. Too bad about your car and those brakelines were a good slap in the face after haha.

The roof is straight, all the doors open and close, but the right rear quarter panel is a bit rippled. Mostly it's just that the front end and rear hatch are ******, and just knowing how much body work can cost, I'm assuming it's totalled.

In response to what started the chain reaction, the Neon 2 cars ahead of me stopped short in heavy traffic. It was wet out from a day's worth of rain. The CTS in front of me rear-ended the Neon, and I rear-ended the CTS. And so on and so forth. Basically everyone was following too closely to react quickly enough to a stupid driver's actions.

Yeah, if it they total it, I'm definitely considering buying it back to part it out. I've got a decent amount of nice parts on it right now: GT Spec rear strut bar, AutoExe ram air intake (thankfully unharmed by the crash), a B&M shifter w/ corksport bronzoil and urethane bushings (installed the day before the crash), AWR mounts and inserts, MP3 ECU, Dave B rings, plus all the factory parts that are in decent condition. Not to mention the Racing Beat sway bars that I had yet to install (the rear one I had literally paid for the day before), my uninstalled clunk fix brackets, my Goodridge brake lines, the SLS Performance solid motor mount that had not yet arrived in the mail, a full set of Hawk HPS pads. s***. I'll probably start a FS thread tomorrow when I find out about the insurance.

Edit: AutoExe intake is NOT unharmed. I don't want to open the hood for fear of not being able to close it again, but it looks like the core support splintered some of the carbon fiber. Oh well. At least I'm unharmed. Now to start shopping around for another Mazda!

On a slightly humorous note, the driver of the FJ Cruiser behind me told me that his company fabricates bumpers and brushguards for offroad vehicles. His front end was totally unharmed, except for some scuffs on the brushguard from demolishing my hatch. He took pics of my car and said he was going to use them to advertise his company's brushguards. Talk about some real-world testing!

Haha, OK i guess you'll have first dibs. Like I said, I'll probably start a FS thread tomorrow once I hear back from my insurance company.

Cool thanks man also hows the lower grill id be interested in that too...and the bronzoil bushings.
