Weak Mazda Transmission

All I read on this forum is about how weak our transmissions are....Besides better shifter bushings and full synthetic fluid what modifications would you recommend to make it more durable..What kind of problems was you guys having?? I have not had a problem on mine (knock on wood)!

vroom ssccrraattcchH!!!

i need synthetic tranny fluid for real... and probably some bushings, but i also need money more than anything. When i speed shift into second it scratches pretty nasty, but second chirps DIRTY STYLE. I kinda like it, no problems with second -> third or so forth. i would like to know too though what i could do to keep my tranny in tact.

What makes you think our tranny is so bad? From what I've seen, most people agree it could be better, but it's not necessarily weak. I remember reading the thread about the 323 with the BP-T that ran 10s or 11s on a stock tranny.

The axels are the weak point, as long as you don't shift like an idiot, and dump your clutch at every stoplight, the tranny can hold the power. It just needs to be babied.

are you pushing around 300+whp? i assume no. the GM-25R is a strong enough tranny for 95% of the members here.

if you shift correctly you don't have any problems with the tranny. like others have said, the axles will be the first to go.

Correct...again just another one of those rumors flying like wild fire. Tranny should be good...so far I hadnt heard anyone have any problem with them...only the differential and axel. And clutch because of the axels. But the actual tranny/gears I think is more then capable for any power we'll ever put down anytime soon. Of course we'll all know when a certain member gets his ride up (azn6er)...beast.

I assume what you are saying that its a bit hard to shift...not nessisarly weak. Bushings help for me and I hadnt tried changing fluids yet but I will probally do that soon. I heard purple royal and redline are pretty good.

Luckily, better axles are also a relatively cheap upgrade. Other than that, GA said it all.
How much are axles out of curiosity? What kind of prices have you seen on them?

Well a local shop called Enjuku just set a record with there drag S13 240 (can see it in modifired mag). But there axels snaped. So they ordered another axel from this company:

http://www.fast-turbo.com/axles.html

Gator Racing Axles Stage 2, Rated for up to 450 Wheel HP

$475 per set (2 axles)

Gator Racing Axles Stage 3, Rated for 600 Wheel HP and UP

Call for special pricing
Not a bad price at all for custom axels. They are located in florida but cant find there official site...not sure if this is a distributor or if its there site. But its not all that expensive.
