Anyone know if I can order the splash guard separately? The used one I bought from a forum member did not have one.

Thanks,
James

I dont know where to get one.You may have to make something..Im wondering why the other owner would not giveup his sheild when he sold it to you,Thats some bs there when he know you will need it to keep water off your filter.

Other CAI designs don't have a shield, correct? I'm betting it's not entirely necessary, so long as your spash guards are on the car on the undercarriage, you're probably OK. However, for the peace of mind, you'd probably be best off getting one fabricated, or talking to a dealership to see if they'll sell you that part of the kit individually.

Probably isn't truly necessary. the wheel well liner shield and stuff are pretty well solid, a few tiny holes in them aren't going to let much water in, and being it's behind the foglight, which is totally enclosed in the bumper (on an MS3 at least), there's no hole in the bumper for water to fly in. you'd have to really hit a large puddle or half submerge it to get it really wet, unless there is some hole and the design allows water to spray in there.

you could go get some thin sheet aluminum and make your own for really cheap if you wanted. it wont be all shiny and perfect, but no one is going to see it anyways tucked down there.

Just get an Injen Hydroshield. autoanything.com has them for $23. It will keep your filter clean longer too.

i threw 2 CEL's with in 3-4 weeks after my intial install last year with out the shield. both after my car sat in downpours, not driven, just sat there. installed the shield and an outerwears prefilter cover. no problems since then. i have been running short ram with it for a couple weeks now and like it better this way.

Im guessing you guys dont know that there are 3 long holes in the wheel well in front of the tire where water comes off your tire and goes thru those holes right on to the shield.Right now there is a bunch of salt and dirt all over my shield so it must be stopping alot of water and dirt.I would not run it without it if you live in a rainy or snowy area.

You can get the Outerwears water repellant filter cover from me, too, for $21.00 shipped. I sell tons of them on the 'other' Mazda 3 forum.
