Water Pump

Hello everybody i have a simple question. I am replacing the water pump on a 2.2 FI engine on my 1991 B2200 pickup and I need to know where does the new O Ring that they give you with the new water pump and gasket go. The Chilton book says to replace it but for the life of me I cant figure out where the heck it goes and what purpose it would serve.

wtf does this have to do with a mazdaspeed3 forum? wrong place buddy. If i was you I would start by tossing the cheap ass chilton book and go get a haynes repair manual or a factory service manual to see where it goes. Make sure you get oem parts that are the same as stock not some aftermarket unit. Also, there should be an old o ring somewhere when you take the old pump off...thats where the new one goes on the new water pump. Same for the gasket, there will be one somewhere when you take it off...put the new one there.
