i need reliable friends. problem is, in the army, you dont normally make good friends, because when you do, it always sucks to say goodbye. people are always coming and going, and you never stay with the same people very long. someone will come down on orders for korea, or stay back while you deploy, pcs to another stateside unit, get out the army or get hurt and discharged.

really... i'm not getting any knock or ping (as of yet) motor seems to be taking it really well...
Oh trust me - if you are in fact running 10psi with stock timing and pump gas, you're knocking.

i only really got on it twice though... had my car running for about a week already... i really need to replace that clutch... i was thinking about going with the SPEC clutch that beau is selling... it's a stage3 and it's fairly inexpensive... but i'm a clutchmaster kinda guy ... i'm not sure if i will like the SPEC clutch...
You'll be MUCH happer with the Spec Stage 3. Trust me. If you get the CM clutch, you WILL regret it.

oh i did that on purpose.
Why? The best way to do it is to "unquote" the person, so if someone goes to then quote your already quoted post, they can. Plus it's still easier to follow.

yea, and beau has pretty good pricing. his stage one was doing fine for his car IIRC and he was at 11psi dyno tuned.

I hear ya, man. I had a lot of unreliable friends that were a blast to hang out with, but I just stopped hanging out with them and finding more reliable friends. I don't have time to get jerked around.

hmm... i would hear the knock... and i'm definately not getting any...

running 93 octane...

my exhaust isn't loud... it's very low toned... i think i would have heard the knock by now

Matt - Checked out the pics of your kit. Looks damn clean, very nice piping. I envy your polished turbo (mine looks like a rusty turd). I guess my only beef with your setup is that the end tanks aren't tapered...they're just squared. Hell, mine are squared too, but that's the only problem I could find. I wish MAM was around back when I got my old Spool setup.

when i installed my first kit, there were like three people that said they would help me cause i had NO IDEA what to do. everytime i had a question i ended up calling mike (ghostp5) who was a great help.

the second time around i really wasnt friends with anyone in AZ. as a careerist, i couldnt talk to or even give rides to initial entry soldiers, which made up about 90 percent of the class. the other two people had families and such there with them.

fortunately my girlfriend is SO wonderful she asked how the turbo system worked. then made me explain the purpose of each gauge and what AFRs were. then wanted to udnerstand the FMU and fuel system. then she would point to random things and ask about them.

most importantly, when it came time to install the new kit, she helped turn wrenches man. i told her where she could help and she just rolled up her sleeves and dove in. and she knows nothing about nor has she ever done anything relating to cars save for changing oil and plugs once or twice. when i needed help holding up the FMIC while i drilled into the bumper support or when i needed help holding up the sideskrits and lip to drill holes there, she was all over it. i had to pry that wonderful woman away from the car.

and she really gave two s**** about the work, she loves the car and "misses" the pss pss sound of the greddy (reason i am ditching the bosch BPV and going witth the HKS SSQ), she just wanted to take part in what i enjoy.

damn, i miss her. 3 weeks, 5 more days of this misery.

me too :) thanks for the good words. that thing spools up to full boost 6.5psi at like 2k rpm max. i swear my gauge only reads 0psi and then the next line is 6.5psi it spools so quick.

oh, and if i was pissed or anything, shed just rub my neck and my back and kiss my ear and stuff until i smiled. never met someone so patient and caring with me. shed bring me my favorite drink (snapple peach tea) by the bulk if i was running into trouble.

she never rushed me or was ever upset if something didnt meet a deadline. i think she was getting frustrated waiting on nick to get my kit which was holding up the process but that was only cause i was frustrated. eventually i talked to beau and just went with his mpi thank god.

Anything more than 7psi without timing retard on these cars will usually knock on pump gas, unless you have some kind of silly water injection or something to really cool down the intake charge. Verify that you're indeed running 10psi.

I've heard of some of the Haltech F10 guys running about 10psi on a P5 with stock timing, and even they reported some knock...and that's with a smaller turbo.

What turbo you running?

i would disagree and say 8psi. i ran 8psi no problem for almost a year.

Lots of guys ran 8psi on an FMU years ago and blew motors.

Flyin' Miata themselves said that knock usually starts around 7psi with no timing retard in these things.

interesting. i need a j/s i guess. well im only boostin 6.5psi now...im going to be dumping torco into my gas at 8psi, i should be around 94-95sh i think with that. hopefully i wont run into problems, though i wouldnt be too upset if i blew a motor and had an excuse to go spend the money.

anyways, off to bed for me, wake up in about 5ish hours or so.

Do yourself a favor - you're gonna want it eventually anyway, so start finding a block and send it to MAM for them to start building it.
