reseach project. actually i'm getting paid to do this.... :-D

My final opinion on this thread...

1. Ignore everything that noclue said.

2. Spooled: The R in the R32 is the symbol for VW Racing (http://www.vw-cup.co.uk/), which has been around for a long time & has a rich motorsports history. It's basically just like Mazdaspeed for us, except that Volkswagen Racing actually sells aftermarket parts in the US (http://www.bildon.com).

3. Autox MSP: The MSP interior ISN'T cheap...maybe the cloth on the doors isn't alcantara & the silver parts are plastic & not brushed aluminum, but it's still a hell of a lot nicer than most other cars I've been in. It's definately nicer than my friend's RSX-S or WRX. VWs do have a lot of problems, but you could say the same for the MSP. The only 2 main problems the VWs have are the coil packs & the window regulators (which they finally fixed, just took a long time...same situation we are in with the clunk). You make it sound like the cars fall apart, but this insn't true. The mechanicals of the car aren't bad at all & while the 5spd might not be great, the 6spd is awesome. I used to be on VWvortex before I got my MSP & almost all of my friends drive Dubs...I don't know a single one who has had an eletrical failure or been stranded.

True, the fighting there is so much worse than here, but that's because they have like 70,000 members. The MkIV section of Vortex is has more members & threads than our entire site. They do, however, have some nice things about them too...with their huge size, they have the $$ to get press cars & write stories like this (which everyone reading this thread should read):

i like it! i was going to get a VW Golf Turbo before i saw the PRotege5 and all its beauty!!!!! MAn i love my P5

i just got done looking at a couple of R32's at my local dealership. they are sick. i sat in it at the autoshow, but the sticker price on the red one was 30,600 and the sticker price on the silver was 29,900.

(NO BS...) I saw one of these about 3 days ago on Sproul Rd. in Springfield (DelCo) Pa, in left lane to get onto Rt. 1 south. I was coming the opposite way (only going about 15 MPH, I just merged on from Rt. 1) and had to give it a good look to confirm my suspiscion that it was the R32...had the identical 18"s & dual exhaust...even same blue color as the pics on the web. At first I thought it was a tricked GTI because I didn't think that VW was bringing them stateside, but now I know better. Pretty sweet car all in all...but I'm not a VW fan overall. Well...looks like the sport compact market is gettin' a bit bigger these days! :D

I guess I should have titled the thread "Should I keep my MSP or buy a VW R32?" Would that have been ok?
Yes that would have been fine. (group)

Wow I seem my friend did a number on ur guys.... I'm sorry he will not do that again.

Edit

He also changed my signature... How that happen

If i wanted a performance car, i would want all the money in to what mattered the most. If i wanted a luxury car i would want all the money in the plush interior. Best example of a performance car done right. Lotus Elise might not have a much of an interior but its considered #1 most fun to drive car in the world by every top mags.
The R32 is a nice compromise of performance/luxury but at that price there are better choices. Besides i think everyone knows VWs engineering is utter crap.

just curious, but why is it utter crap?

i have a VW GTI 1.8T and on stock internals my car can handle up to arround 425 HP (give or take about 10HP)

i have freinds that are pulling low 13's and some mid to high 12's in their VW's...

how much can a Mazda handle stock?

im not flaming or anything im just curious as to why you support the VW is crap claim...

I worked on VW's for the past 8 years. I've seen them fall apart. I helped build a Rabbit with a 91 Sherik 2.0 16V with a Carb. The new ones are just horrid to work on because of constant electronic failures. I've a few people with trannies that failed and horrible VW dealer service. 1 out of 3 VW/Audi owners had to have their car towed because of electronic failures. Ask any VW mechanic, if they think VW's are built good. I bet you'll get a big NO every time.

Don't even let me get in to the new VW Suv. My friend works as a mech at a porsche dealer and hates working on the new Cayannes. All the electronics are done by VW, wiring is done by fiber optics. They come in broken all the time and is a b**** to fix since the car comes with 100 different options and for every model they use a different control module. Another good friend works at a euro performance specialty shop. They work on alot of Audis, they are constantly in for service for leaks, tranny failure and electronics. They are not cheap to fix and not a do it yourself kind of repair either.

Older GTi II and III were alrite even though those are reliablity pain too. Hell the SRT4 can handle close to 500hp on their block. Doesnn't make it a good car. I would never buy a VW, they are complete trash of cars.

...wow i didn't realize that my car was so crappy... oohh wait, i don't think it is... alot of it is easy problem solving, some of it is design misfortune, but i work on my car alot and on freinds cars alot and most of it is common sence... they are very easy to work on and yes i admit the computer is a little annoying at times, but these cars are in no way trash...

the audi, well about the tranny going, there hasn't been much problem with the Manuals (yes i know of cases where it needs to be replaced) , but the tip tronic in the higher HP cars like the S4 and RS6 they are having problems couping with so much HP on a quatro system. and yes your right it isn't cheap.

the main issue on VW's is coil packs (fixed in the latest years) and window regulators (also fixed)

don't get me wrong, i love mazda, but who was it that released a car that looses about 40HP just from an automatic transmision lol (had to toss something in about mazda just to try and make it go fair

hell i dont like mazdas either, even though i own a MSP. I could go on and on about the crappy tranny, sloppy motor mounts, horrid fuel map.

Out of all the cars i've worked on the Honda has the best drivetain out of them all.
