Has anyone installed a deck (I want to install a double din DVD unit) and figured out how to get the volume controls on the steering wheel to control the volume on the deck?

Thanks

Can't do it. You loose your steering wheel controls when you go with an after market head-unit.

really? How does it feed the signal to the head unit?

PAC Model #SW1-X - Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface
This universal "learning" remote allows you to retain the use of steering wheel or rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit. It will interface most aftermarket stereos into most vehicles with steering wheel or rear seat audio controls, and works with virtually all aftermarket radios with wireless infrared remote capability using the common 38-40kHz carrier frequency. It also retains the use of heater control buttons on GM vehicles. The SWI-X is so universal that you only need one SKU# to cover over 95% of the vehicles made from 1986 to current. New vehicles coming out every year? No problem! Never be stuck with a vehicle specific type interface.

Works for all major brand radios, including Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC, Sony, Clarion, Blaupunkt, Eclipse, Panasonic, Rockford, Sanyo or just about any other brand out there.
You can assign the buttons on the steering wheel to any infrared function on the remote, so you are never stuck with specific functions you don't want.
With select Alpine headunits, the SWI-X can be modified to directly plug into the remote port of the Alpine headunit.
Covers Ford, GM, Chrysler / Dodge, Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saab, Toyota, Volkswagan, and Harley Davidson motor cycles.

You want to install a non-factory replacement radio in your vehicle, but you hate to give up the convenience of your factory steering wheel radio controls. No worries! PAC's SWI-X interface allows you to use the steering wheel controls in a wide variety of vehicles to command any aftermarket radio with wireless remote capability.

Installation is straightforward just connect a few wires (a 3-wire hook up in many cars). Programming is made easy with step-by-step LED confirmation. Once connected, the SWI-X's failsafe memory will learn up to 12 functions from your receiver's wireless remote, retaining them even if battery power is interrupted. Dimensions: 3-3/4"W x 1-1/16"H x 1-9/16"D.
